...but I wasn't trying to place a trade. All I did was to click on that little "+" button (or whatever you call it) on the bottom left of the chart. What does that "+" do, or what would it do if it worked?

The small plus on the right of a tab at the bottom of a chart, is to create a new tab.

NinjaTrader 8 allows for Tabbed Window Management but only when using the Free Simulation, Single or Multi-Broker licenses.

This feature is not available for Direct Edition Licenses.
