I want to use ninja trader to back test my strategies. I have not yet chosen a broker to trade with, does it matter which broker I select when I proceed to own the platform?

NinjaTrader is a free application for backtesting. You will only need to lease or purchase NinjaTrader when you are ready to trade your brokerage account in NinjaTrader.

You can have your license key converted to a different supported brokerage at a later date for no additional charge.

I have the free version but I don't have access to all the data on forex pairs.

The data available will depend on what data provider you are connected to, this is separate from the free, simulated license itself which gives access to the platform itself.

Who are you connected to? This is displayed in green on lower left corner of the Control Center window.

What instrument (and expiry if applicable) have you selected?

(For a chart) what interval is selected?

Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?
