Best way to trade multiple instruments?

I have four different instruments I'd like to trade for one strategy. What is the best way to do this? Should I bring up 2 charts, each one with 2 data series, so four data series total, and then add strategies to the chart? Is that the best way?

Hello Style,

The only way to trade 4 instruments from a single strategy would be the same approach as the SampleMultiInstrument strategy that comes with the platform. This would only be applied to a single instrument but adds additional data series that it requires.

The chart this gets placed on can be either a single instrument, or a chart with multiple series, it would depend what you want to look at. The series on the chart would have nothing to do with the Added series of the strategy, only the Primary instrument on the chart would matter to the strategy.

You could also not open a chart at all and use the Control center strategies tab to apply the strategy to the Primary instrument, it would still add the additional series to be used.

Are you saying that having a chart with multiple data series and multiple strategies won't work? It sure looks like NT will allow me to do this. Here is an example:



I really don't want to make my strategy a multi-instrument strategy. The strategy is pretty simple, and making it a multi-instrument strategy would add unnecessary complexity.

It would depend on how you interpret what you had asked

I have four different instruments I'd like to trade for one strategy.

Do you intend to add 4 instruments to a chart and enable 4 instances of a strategy or enable a single instance of a strategy and trade 4 instruments? Both are possible, the prior response would be if you want to trade using one strategy with 4 instruments per your original question. You could also apply 4 different instances of a strategy to 4 different instruments.

The series you add on the chart other than the primary would not matter to the strategy in the case of adding additional series from code. Otherwise if you are applying multiple strategies to a single chart, you would pick which series you want that instance applied to.
