Ninja Trader: Unable to re-establish the connection. (Panic)

    Hey everyone,

I’m trading with my Tradovate prop accounts using NinjaTrader on a well-known VPS provider, and I keep getting this error during my trading sessions:
"My NinjaTrader: Unable to re-establish the connection. (PANIC)"

I’ve already spoken with the VPS provider, and they’ve confirmed the connection on their end is stable. I even tested this issue across multiple VPS servers to rule out a hardware or network problem—same result.

I also reached out to Tradovate, and they’ve said there are no known issues on their servers or data feeds.

At this point, the only common factor left is the NinjaTrader platform itself. I’d really appreciate help in identifying what’s causing these disconnections and how to resolve or minimize them. It’s disrupting my trading and making it hard to rely on the platform during active sessions.

    Thanks.

    Hello asafC90,

    Thank you for the message.

Since you are still losing connection to the NinjaTrader servers, you will have to reach out to a Windows, PC, or Network specialist and get their help investigating why you keep losing connection to those specific servers while you aren't losing it to any other servers.

There are no further settings for the connection we could adjust within the NinjaTrader Platform.
    • If you think about it, nothing about the connection settings changes in between when it is working or not. Sometimes the exact same credentials and settings work to connect within a few seconds while sometimes it can take a few minutes.
    • This would imply that something further down the chain is affecting the rate at which the connection happens.
      • Imagine turning on the water faucet all the way but the water only trickles out if at all. If you do some basic checks on the faucet to ensure it is working, then the only answer is that it is being slowed down by something further up the pipe/stream.
      • This is essentially the same thing that is happening with your connection. The platform is set up the best it can be and for some reason, something between your platform and the specific servers is causing it to have an unstable connection and intermittently lose connection. (Again, Imagine you were watering the flowers with a hose and it randomly stops spraying, the nozzle isn't broken, this normally implies there is a kink in the line further up the hose causing it to slow or stop)

These are the few network-related steps we can help with as NinjaTrader Support:
    • Restart your PC, and your modem/router
    • Ensure that all available updates for your PC are installed from the Windows Settings > Update and Security page. Be sure to close NinjaTrader and restart your computer after any updates are installed.
    • Disable your VPN service (if applicable)
    • Clear your DNS: Open the Command Prompt > type in 'ipconfig/flushdns' > press 'Enter' on your keyboard
    • Ensure that you have the Documents\NinjaTrader 8 folder on the list of exceptions for your firewall, antivirus, or backup programs and software
    • If possible, try running your computer directly to your router/modem using an ethernet cable, or vice versa, through a WiFi connection if already hard-wired in

Some additional tests you could try if you have the necessary resources:
    • If you have a 2nd computer at your location you can install NinjaTrader on, do that and try connecting to the account
      • If the connection is still being lost, that points to the Network/Internet connection
      • If it works, that points to something on the original PC causing the connection loss
    • If you have a 2nd connection at your location like a mobile hotspot, connect to it and then try to connect to your account
      • If it is still being lost on the original PC, this points to something within the PC itself
      • If it works, this points to the original Network/Internet Connection in use

If you perform all of the steps above and are still unable to connect, there are no further steps that we would be able to recommend as this indicates a problem somewhere further down the network path. If the issue persists after completing all of the steps above, you must contact your ISP or a Network Technician and let them know you are experiencing network connectivity issues to the following IP Addresses and get further help looking into what is preventing the connection.
