    Cannot import indicators.

I had a friend that used ChatGPT to make a custom indicator and when he tried to send it to me it completely jacked up my ninjatrader layout. I ended up deleting everything and reinstalling ninjatrader but now my problem is that I cannot import any of the 2-3 custom indicators I use to have. I went back and re-downloaded them from the Ninjatrader ecosystem, but I keep getting this error and then the entire program shuts down. Can somebody please help?

    Thank you.

    Hello Bjlarson78,

    Thank you for reaching out.

One step that may be a quick fix would be to rename that folder specifically.

I recommend this procedure to only isolate this folder:

    1. Close NT8

    2. Go to your PC -> Documents -> NinjaTrader 8 -> tmp

    3. Select the "tmp" folder and right click and select "Rename. (Rename). You may need to select "show more options" first.

Name:	image.png
Views:	317
Size:	206.3 KB
ID:	1335857

    4. Rename this folder to "OLDtmp".

    5. Repair the platform so that it creates a new folder.

    To repair:
    • Go to your computer's Control Panel > Programs and Features (Note: look for 'Control Panel' to find it within the Windows Start Menu. This will be a different window than the Settings page.)
    • Left-click once on NinjaTrader 8 > select 'Repair' above the list of available programs
    • Restart the platform after it finishes repairing, and test this behavior again.

    6. Start NT8 and you should now be able to go to Tools -> Import and import any custom indicators you have available.

Please let us know the results of this test, and if you have any other questions.

@NinjaTrader_Erick So that kind of worked. Once I did that it would let me import 1 indicator and then give me the fallowing error. The program would then shut down again. Once I start up the program that indicator is now there but it will not let me import anymore. I repeated this process a second time and again it allowed me to upload another indicator but did the same error. So were getting some progress.

        Hello Bjlarson78,

        Thank you for your message.

I see, since the "access to the path... is denied" error keep occuring, then indeed it means it was not just that folder that is the issue.

When you get this type error, it indicates that something is blocking NinjaTrader from accessing its own files.

A first step to try, would be to restart your PC, as to end any active process that may be using your NT8 files, then re-launch NT8.

Usually this has to do with any back up software (OneDrive) or the directory where NT8 files are.

If after restarting your PC you still get that error message I have outlined a few different troubleshooting steps below to combat this error.

        Windows Firewall/Anti-Virus

First, please check for any virus protection, firewall, and backup software you may be running, and add exceptions for NinjaTrader so that they do not interfere with NinjaTrader's operation.

        Disable Controlled Folder Access

Next, press the "Windows Key" on your keyboard > Search for "Controlled Folder Access" > Click on "Controlled Folder Access" > Turn "Controlled Folder Access" off if it is enabled
        • This can be restricted by administrator settings. If you are unable to access this setting, please contact your network/PC administrator.
        • Additional information on Controlled Folder Access may be read at this publicly-available link from Microsoft's website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ndows-security

        Uninstall/Reinstall NinjaTrader 8

Please follow the steps listed below to complete a quick uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader. These directions will keep you from losing any of your information.
        • Close all running applications.
        • Do not do anything to the Documents/NinjaTrader folder
        • Uninstall NinjaTrader within Windows Control Panel.
        • Navigate to "C:\ > Program Files (x86)" > or "C:\ > Program Files" Delete the 'NinjaTrader 8' folder if it exists
        • Reboot your PC.
        • Once these steps are completed, download and install NT8 using the steps below:
          • Login into the NinjaTrader Account Dashboard
          • Click "Download" in the bottom left-hand corner of the sidebar
          • Next select "Download" in the "Most Recent Release" Window in the main screen
          • Once the installation had downloaded, ensure any previous version of NinjaTrader is closed before running the installation package
        • Before restarting NinjaTrader, be sure all available updates are installed to your PC from the Windows Settings > Update and Security page.
          • Be sure to manually check for updates here, and reboot after any updates are installed.

Please let me know if these solutions work for you, and feel free to ask any questions you may have as you work.
