Hello asd32,
Thank you for the message.
This would most likely be happening for one of two reasons:- You are using Market-based orders which can experience slippage
- Or, your platform is experiencing rendering delays causing the charts to fall behind the real-time market prices.
1. First, please note that orders are filled at the exchange, not by NinjaTrader; so the platform and/or NinjaTrader Brokerage has no effect over whether your order fills or at which price the order fills at.- If using market orders, the amount of slippage you receive on your order will vary depending on market conditions at that time.
- Limit orders are filled at the exchange based on price availability at that time.
Limit orders are filled by the simulator based off of several factors to ‘best guess’ what would occur in a live market.- The sim engine uses depth of market, approximate position in queue, and volatility to estimate where you would be filled in a live market
- However, there is no way to exactly replicate what would occur in a live market trade.
Limit orders are always filled at the limit price or better, so these will inherently have no slippage.
In short:- Market Orders guarantee a Fill, but they do not guarantee a Price.
- Limit Orders guarantee a Price, but they do not guarantee a fill.
2. If the behavior seems like more than slippage, then you are most likely experiencing Rendering Delays.
Rendering Delay occurs on your charts when they are trying to print too much information at once and cannot keep up with the current price.- This may become more prevalent on your charts during periods of high volatility and fast market movement.
- You may also notice your orders filling immediately or being rejected as well as they are submitted to prices nowhere near the current market price.
- Oftentimes, this is being caused by 3rd-party add-ons that are not efficiently rendering on your charts.
To test for a price delay on your charts, compare the Last Price shown in your Chart to the Ask/Bid in the Chart Trader or the price of the same instrument in a SuperDOM window.- If the prices match, this indicates you are not getting delayed data and that your chart is successfully showing live data.
- If the prices do not match, this indicates that your chart is experiencing rendering delay, meaning that it is printing too much information due to inefficient indicators or too many objects on your workspace.
If you confirm that your charts are falling behind the current market price, you may open the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor to see what (if any) NinjaScript items may be contributing to the symptoms:- Control Center > New > NinjaScript Output
- Right-click within the NinjaScript output window > Select 'NinjaScript Utilization Monitor...
- This window will begin to populate with NinjaScript items in order of time spent processing
- Let this window populate for at least a few minutes
- How to interpret the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor results to diagnose Rendering Delays
- If you are still not sure of what the results indicate, take a screenshot of the Utilization Monitor and send the results in a response to this email
- How to interpret the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor results to diagnose Rendering Delays
To Resolve the Rendering Delays:- You will need to reduce the complexity of your workspace and remove things until it is able to keep up in real-time again
- If any indicators jumped to the top of the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor, then remove them from the workspace and see if performance improves
- If yes, then you will want to reach out to the developer of those add-ons and ask for further tips and suggestions on how to reduce their impact
- You could also create a new workspace from scratch while being aware of the Performance and also utilizing the Tips and Suggestions from the following Help Guide:

Thanks for the reply. As a longtime user of another platform, I've never experienced what I'm reporting today. I'm familiar with all of the order types and their characteristics. I don't think slippage can explain this at all, since I'm watching the NT chart and another platform chart (connected through remote desktop) and watching prices touch levels basically synchronously..Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to even work on solving what this might be -- it's not confidence-inspiring to put live money behind and I can't see a good reason for it. Hardware-wise, I'm using a high-performance machine on a very good connection. The range of technical possibilties is somewhat narrow.

Hello asd32,
Thank you for the update.
CRITICAL — If your inquiry involves live orders, please always reach out to your broker or evaluation provider immediately to confirm and manage your live orders and positions.
If you still have further questions, please use the following steps to send your log and trace files to the support team directly from your NinjaTrader Platform so we may investigate this behavior further:- Within NinjaTrader, go to the Control Center > Help > Email Support...
- To: Set this to "Platform Technical Support"
- Subject: Copy and paste the Forum URL
- Attach: Attach a file, picture, or compressed file to share multiple files/pictures
- Body: Answer all of the questions below:
- What instrument were you trading?
- Was this a live or simulation order?
- What time and date did this most recently occur?
- What Order ID was assigned to this order?
- If this order was placed today, you can check in the Executions or Orders tab of the Control Center.
- If this order occurred on a previous date, you may locate the order ID by contacting your broker or by going to New > Trade Performance, generating a Trade Performance report for that date and locating the order in the 'Orders' display.
- Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?
- Make sure 'Log and Trace files' is checked to include the requested files
- Send the email
