    Multiple crashes daily with 8.1.4.1

After installing NT8 8.1.4.1 on my Windows 11 machine, I experienced many crashes. It seems related to the user interface for indicators; clicking "apply" to save indicator setting changes seems to be the most common cause. I have updated everything on my machine to the latest, even BIOS, drivers, all of it.

I thought the issue was my machine, but this morning in the trading room, I learned that two other people had just upgraded and are experiencing the same behavior.

I just back leveled down to 8.1.3.1. I'm hoping this "fixes" it. Please don't dismiss this; it's a legitimate issue and not my imagination. Also, it should not be a performance issue. Task manager shows no significant CPI use. This machine is an i9 11th generation CPU with 32GB RAM.

    Hello Kraken29,

    Thank you for the message.

Please use the following steps to open the platform in Safe Mode and create a "Test" workspace to see if the behaviors continue in a clean environment without your workspace and its configuration:
    • If the behaviors don't continue in Safe Mode, save the "Test" workspace and then reopen NinjaTrader like normal to the Test workspace and see if the behaviors continue.
    • If the behavior hasn't returned, reopen the Original workspace to see if this behavior comes back and is specific to your original workspace.
Safe Mode will prevent NinjaTrader from:
    • Loading workspaces and connecting on start-up.
    • Loading custom assemblies (i.e. 3rd-party add-ons and NinjaScripts)
    • Getting instrument updates from the server

To enable Safe Mode, please use the following steps:
    • Shut down NinjaTrader.
    • Hold the CTRL key and double-click the NinjaTrader icon.
    • Keep holding the CTRL key until you see the Sign in Window then sign in (If the logo is Maroon, hold until you see the Control Center since this is an Older version)
    • You may then verify you are in Safe Mode by going to Help -> About.

Once you have opened the platform in Safe Mode:
    • Reconnect to your Data Provider
    • Go to the Control Center > Workspaces > Click new > Call it "Test" > Click OK
      • Please open a new chart with no custom bar types/indicators/templates and test for issues.
      • Create a small Test workspace using Default NinjaTrader Indicators only and test if the behavior continues.

Does the behavior persist on this "Test" Workspace in Safe Mode?
    • If the behavior is no longer happening, go to the Control Center > Workspaces > Hover over "Test" > Click save
    • Restart NinjaTrader and open the platform like normal. Click "NO" if it asks to save again.

NinjaTrader should open to the "Test" workspace in Normal mode now:
    • Connect to your Market Data and test if the behavior continues while here on the Test Workspace in Normal mode.
    • If there are no errors, try opening your original workspace

Do the errors return when you re-open the Original Workspace?
    • If yes, this confirms that the unwanted behavior is being caused by something within the original workspace specifically.
    • You could either:
      • Remove things from the Original Workspace 1-by-1 until the unwanted behaviors go away and you will know the last thing removed was causing it.
      • Or, continue with the Test Workspace and build it back up 1-by-1 until the behaviors return so you know the last thing added back in is causing the unwanted behaviors
        • Once you narrow in on what is causing the Unwanted behaviors, you could reach out to the developer for further help and information on why it is happening and what must be done to avoid it moving forward.

Please let us know if the unwanted behaviors continued while opening NinjaTrader in Safe Mode or to the "Test" workspace in Normal Mode.
    • If so, do NOT respond in the forum. Instead, please use the following steps to send your log and trace files to the support team directly from your NinjaTrader Platform so we may investigate this behavior further:
      • Within NinjaTrader, go to the Control Center > Help > Email Support...
      • To: Set this to "Platform Technical Support"
      • Subject: Copy and paste the Forum URL
      • Attach: Attach a file, picture, or compressed file to share multiple files/pictures
      • Body: Include any other information you would like to share on the situation
      • Make sure 'Log and Trace files' is checked to include the requested files
        • Send the email

Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

        Hello Rene69851,

        Thank you for the message.

From the description, it sounds like your platform is experiencing Rendering Delays.

        1. You could do the Safe Mode steps above as well to verify if the behavior happens in a basic workspace using default NinjaTrader items only.

        2. Rendering Delay occurs on your charts when they are trying to print too much information at once and cannot keep up with the current price.
        • This may become more prevalent on your charts during periods of high volatility and fast market movement.
        • You may also notice your orders filling immediately or being rejected as well as they are submitted to prices nowhere near the current market price.
        • Oftentimes, this is being caused by 3rd-party add-ons that are not efficiently rendering on your charts.

To test for a price delay on your charts, compare the Last Price shown in your Chart to the Ask/Bid in the Chart Trader or the price of the same instrument in a SuperDOM window.
        • If the prices match, this indicates you are not getting delayed data and that your chart is successfully showing live data.
        • If the prices do not match, this indicates that your chart is experiencing rendering delay, meaning that it is printing too much information due to inefficient indicators or too many objects on your workspace.

If you confirm that your charts are falling behind the current market price, you may open the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor to see what (if any) NinjaScript items may be contributing to the symptoms:
        • Control Center > New > NinjaScript Output
        • Right-click within the NinjaScript output window > Select 'NinjaScript Utilization Monitor...
        • This window will begin to populate with NinjaScript items in order of time spent processing
        • Let this window populate for at least a few minutes

        To Resolve the Rendering Delays:
        • You will need to reduce the complexity of your workspace and remove things until it is able to keep up in real-time again
        • If any indicators jumped to the top of the NinjaScript Utilization Monitor, then remove them from the workspace and see if performance improves
        • If yes, then you will want to reach out to the developer of those add-ons and ask for further tips and suggestions on how to reduce their impact
        • You could also create a new workspace from scratch while being aware of the Performance and also utilizing the Tips and Suggestions from the following Help Guide:
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

Thanks for the detailed instructions Clayton. When I have a day or so to kill I'll run through all that. In the meantime, back leveling to 4.1.3.1 has completely resolved the issues. Given friends of mine are still experiencing crashes with the latest, I think the issue is with the latest release. I'll watch for an update that will, hopefully, correct the issue.

Hi. Same here. Had to shut down computer as ninjatrader just keeps endlessly erroring. 1 chart, 1 indicator. 1 strategy. Please tell me how to go back to the previous version.

            (I found some uninstall instructions.)

Welcome to my world. I started to learn how to use Think or swim because this platform has become a nightmare with dropped connections and lagging charts. They should pull this release before it costs some unaware traders their trading accounts. Maybe that's part of the problem- maybe there's not enough traders actually using this platform for them to take immediate action.

I never had issues until I updated to this latest version. When offline it seems to load up just fine, except when connecting it calculates some stuff and never ends and all charts incl dom hangs.
I would like to downgrade without losing my workspaces/indicators/3rd party indicators/etc, is that possible ?

                  Hello Creamers,

                  Thank you for the update.

It would be better to write into NinjaTrader Support directly as suggested above if the behaviors continue in Safe Mode so that we may investigate it further:
                  • Please follow along with the steps above to send us your log and trace files so that we may investigate the behavior further.
                  • Even if you want to downgrade, it would still be best to write in directly to support so that we can investigate what is causing this behavior further.
                  • If we don't have users write into support directly with their log and trace files to provide to development, there would be no way for us to address the unwanted behaviors.

If you really want to downgrade, the steps can be found under other forum posts like the following:
