NinjaTrader & IB Gateway Not Connecting

    NinjaTrader & IB Gateway Not Connecting

    I recently switched to a new PC running Windows 11. On my previous PC with Windows 10, NinjaTrader and IB Gateway worked perfectly. NinjaTrader would seamlessly connect to Interactive Brokers through IB Gateway, and my username and password were automatically entered during login.

    However, on my new PC:

    NinjaTrader shows a yellow light when attempting to connect to Interactive Brokers via IB Gateway.
    IB Gateway no longer auto-fills my username and password. I have to manually enter them.
    Even after manually logging into IB Gateway, NinjaTrader hangs at the yellow light and fails to connect unless I first log in to IB Gateway separately.
    Once I manually log into IB Gateway first and then connect NinjaTrader to Interactive Brokers, I can see my accounts. However, as soon as I place an entry trade, I get disconnected, and the following error message appears:

    "My Interactive Brokers; Lost or unable to establish communications with IB TWS/GW. Please verify TWS/GW is running on the target machine and try reconnecting or contact support if the issue persists. (panic)"​

    The trades did go through, and I had to log into my interactive broker mobile app to manually close them.

    Thank you for reaching out.

    You most likely are using the latest version of IB Gateway/TWS or it auto-updated.

    When using an Interactive Brokers account to connect to NinjaTrader, you must use the version of Trader Workstation or IB Gateway that is specified within the NinjaTrader — Interactive Brokers Connection Guide seen below:

    Once you have the version of Trader Workstation or IB Gateway as specified above, connect to your account within TWS or IB Gateway.
    • After you are connected in TWS or IB Gateway, you are then able to connect to the account within NinjaTrader.
    • On the supported version, it should not disconnect after a trade.

      IB Gatway version 10.23 is no longer supported as of 2025-03-20 (see attachement screenshot). Can you provide a stable version that works with IB Gateway 10.30.1 Before March 20th?

        Thank you for your message.

        It looks like we have until March 20, 2025 until it is a forced change.

        Our development team has been made aware already and they are working on a fix for NT that will make it work with the latest version of IB Gateway.

        This will be done before the deadline, but we do not have an ETA yet for you.

          Is there any update on the progress? It's been 6 weeks now and in 3 weeks the current IBKR gateway version will no longer work!!

            We do not have an update on when our next version will be released.

            To clarify, the latest version of Gateway is being tested at the moment, before we can give the "go ahead" to say that our current NT version works with it.

            Technically, it could be that a new version of NT8 is not needed, and the current one may work with the latest version of Gateway already without issues.. but nevertheless we need to wait for our Quality Assurance team to finish their thorough testing before we can officially say the new version of Gateway is "supported".

            We should either have a new version to NT8 or an update to our connection guide with the latest version of Gateway stamped as the "supported" version before that date.

            I appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!

              Hi Erick,

              Thanks for the headsup. You refer to "current NT8" version and the latest Gateway version. Do I understand correctly that you are testing the current NT8 version (8.1.4.1 ??) with the latest IBKR Gateway version (1030.1) and that the plan now is to label this combination (if the tests prove successful) as "supported"?

              I'd love to hear it! Then I can prepare myself for the possible update to 8.1.4.1.

                Just tested it. NT 8.1.4.1 does NOT work with IBKR Gateway 1030.1. It loses connection as soon as an order is submitted. The same issue as NT 8.0.28.0 has with IBKR Gateway 1030.1.

                Please provide a fix.

                      I just noticed this from the connection guide.
                      • Note: No other versions of TWS are supported with NinjaTrader Desktop. IB Gateway is not supported for connections with NinjaTrader Desktop.

                      It seems that users also actively concern on this issue in other posts as well.



                      ​​​​​​The NinjaTrader Customer Services ChristopherJ, NinjaTrader_Clayton and NinjaTrader_Erick keeps telling us their development team are working on this issue and this issue will be fix before the 20Mar, but suddenly Customer Service NinjaTrader_StefanR come out and tell NinjaTrader will no longer support IBGateway yesterday and their official connection guide is updated.

                      How many users are waiting for NinjaTrader fixing on this issue after getting noticed from their CS that the NinjaTrader development team is actively working on this issue? It is fine if NT no longer to support certain third party add-on, but why they said they will fix it few months before but suddenly change their decision to no loner support IBgateway right before the deadline?

                      I hope this is just a miscommunication between NinjaTrader_StefanR and the NT development team and this issue will be fix as what we discussed last few months.

                          I cannot to previous version of TWS / ibgateway now, and since I am a HK IB user, the TWS version 10.33 no longer have the option of "Never lock trader workstation" and the TWS will be forced to lockup at most every 30 minutes.

                          Without the promised support NT release that support the latest ibgateway, I don't know what should I do now. I have raised this issue in several posts but the NT support team have no answer at all.

                          Even the new release cannot come out on time, can NT support team tell me what should I do so I can use NT with TWS 10.33 without worrying the 30 minutes lock-up issue. Since one the TWS is locked, the api connection will terminate.

                            Hello,

                            Please forward this post to whomever needs to see it.

                            This is to object strongly to NT’s last-minute decision to discontinue the support of the IB Gateway.
                            Most of us do not want to use Interactive Broker’s full TWS while using Ninja.
                            That defeats the whole point of wanting to use NT8 as the primary trading interface.

                            The Gateway was nice and clean and light CPU load and worked flawlessly.
                            TWS is clunky, prone to errors when they do updates and obnoxious to have open when not in use as full interface.

                            C’mon, IBKR did not change the Gateway that much, the new version is almost identical to the old.
                            Surely it can’t cost you all that much to update the Gateway coding for NT to accommodate the new version?

                            I read on the support forum that “the decision was made to focus on the TWS version”
                            Well, who asked for that?
                            Certainly not the users.
