    Simulated Data Feed question

I have read several posts and Googled the heck out of this, but I can't figure out how to connect to a simulated data feed so I can use the trend slider to test my ATM strats. All I see when I click connections is "Simulation," "Live" and "Playback." If I right click to add an account, I see the properties dialog but no way to set it as an account I can control. There must be a way to set this up?

    Hello Kraken29 ,

    Thank you for reaching out.

To be able to access the Simulated Data Feed, as well as add and view more simulation accounts in the latest version of NinjaTrader, you will need to turn on Multi-provider mode first.

Once the platform is open, go to "Tools" -> Options -> and make sure that the "Multi Providers" option is enabled.

Then you will see the "Sim101" account appear (default simulation account). You can then also right click and then add additional simulation accounts if you please.

You can now also go up to Connections, and you should now see the "Simulated Data Feed" available.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

Thanks Eric, that did the trick.

Could you please explain what the "Multi Providers" option does, beyond making the simulated data feed available?

        Hello Kraken29

        Thank you for your post.

Multi Providers allows for user to manually add more connection to their NinjaTrader 8 platform, suchs as for use with other brokers or evaluation services.

It also allows user to add more local simulation acounts to practice with, as well as the default Simulated Data Feed and Kinetick- End of Day connections.

WIthout Multi Provider, at start up, you are asked to pick "Live or SImulation" then it automatically opens and connects.

Once you turn on Multi Provider mode, you will no longer be asked, how you would like to trade at start up, and instead once the platform is open, you will need to go to Connections and click on the connection you wish to use manually.

You can also further configure this connections from Connections -> configure if you want to enable "Connect on Start up" for example.

        More info:

        Key Features of Multi-Provider Mode:
        1. Connect to Multiple Providers:
          • Multi-provider mode enables you to configure and connect to multiple brokerage or data feed providers simultaneously. For example, you could connect to NinjaTrader Brokerage while also using connections like Interactive Brokers.
        2. Custom Connection Management:
          • With multi-provider mode enabled, you gain access to the Configure button in the Connections menu. This allows you to set up new connections for additional providers and manage them independently.
        3. Server-Side Sim Accounts Disabled:
          • If enabled, the server-side demo accounts feature is turned off. This applies to newer NinjaTrader setups where simulation accounts are tied to server-side environments rather than local ones (like Sim101).
        4. Manual Account Selection:
          • Upon login, the Trading Mode selection screen is bypassed. You will need to manually connect and select accounts from the Control Center.
        5. Compatibility with Additional Features:
          • Multi-provider mode is required if you are using certain advanced features or setups, such as:
            • Multiple broker accounts (e.g., connecting a NinjaTrader Brokerage account and an Interactive Brokers account simultaneously).
            • Evaluations or services leveraging third-party integrations like Rithmic or Tradovate.
        6. Independent Simulation Accounts:
          • Multi-provider mode allows access to traditional local simulation accounts like Sim101, which are not shared across installations.
        Limitations:
        • Multi-provider mode disables automatic login to a single NinjaTrader Brokerage account. If you only use NinjaTrader Brokerage, it might be simpler to keep this option disabled for ease of use.
        • Configuration changes require a restart of NinjaTrader for the settings to take effect.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Further, this was working nicely for a few minutes. Now, I see the price markers are frozen. Using account Sim101, I move the slider all the way up. The black price marker does not move on any chart. I place a long order from the chart trader. I see the number of ticks slowly go up, but still the price marker does not move. It hits target 1. Target 1 vanishes but the stop marker does not move and the price marker remains frozen...

          What gives?

            Hello Kraken29 ,

            Thank you for your message.

Please create the following graph to use for testing. This removes many variables to ensure that nothing prevents the chart from working as expected:
            • Go to Control Center > New > Chart.
            • Select ES 03-25 (also written as "ES MAR25")
            • Make a 1 minute chart
            • Set the 'Days to load' to 5
            • Make sure the 'Template' in the upper right corner is set to "< None >".
            • Set the Timeframe > Trading Hours > To "Default 24x7". This is to be able to load charts while the market is closed.
            • Click OK to create the chart
            • Now connect only to the SImulated Data Feed
            • Does the chart load as expected?
              • Is the historical data displayed and is there real time data?'
              • Can you Righ Click and Reload All historical data to see if this fixes it?
              • If you open the Chart Trader panel, does it show values for Ask and Bid quotes or just 0's?
                • If this chart has loaded and works as expected, how does it differ from the other chart?
I look forward to your reply.

Okay I did that, the price marker is stuck at 21984.00 and nothing is changing. Ask is set to 21984.00 and bid 21983.25, not changing. I'm connected to the simulated data feed. Trading hours are set to default 24/7. Reload historical data does not change anything.

              So no joy.

But it is stopped at 17:00, so it does seem to be a trading hours thing.

NOTE: This issue mysteriously resolved itself.
