BUG: Cannot export indices
Upgrading to 8.1 broke all indices, you recommended I re-download the data (for years). There is another bug, when I click on export I cannot select any indices to export data (new or old). They simply do not appear. PLEASE fix your database errors. This is a program-breaking bug.

Update: I found the NEW ones on the list (out of order), but not the old ones. Can I copy the old minute data files to the new directory? E.g. from ^RUT to $RUT?
I don't want to break anything else, but this is 20 years of data.
While you work on this, why can't I type into the Instrument line? All of my instruments are semi-randomly ordered.

Another point: I mostly have minute data, but I also have day and tick data. I cannot re-download tick data, so I need some way to export it and import it into the "new" indices, or (hopefully) just move over the files to the new directory.

Hello zstheorist,
Thank you for posting.
So I may look into this further can you please attach a screenshot of old data files you want to move to the new installation.
To capture a screenshot I would recommend using Window's Snipping Tool.
Alternatively to capture a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and attach the file to your reply.

Here are some of the files in minute data for ^VIX. I want to move them to $VIX.
I also have data in directories for: ^DJIA, ^RUT, ^RVX, ^SP500, ^TICK, and ^VXN that need to move.
I also have daily and tick data for ^VIX and some of the others I need to move.
If you try to export index data in 8.1 it only finds data in the $VIX directory, etc.

The symbol within the db directory the data folder will use the name of the symbol used within NinjaTrader such as ^VIX and does not use mapping symbol such as $VIX. If you moved the data to this directory with the folder named $VIX NinjaTrader would not be able to load this within the platform and would require ^VIX to be used.Christopher J.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Great, so are you going to provide a converter? This is a massive function breaking change.
What binary format are you using? Is it just deflate or something more complicated? This is a LOT of data I have lost access to - much of which that cannot be re-downloaded.

It appears the data you have referenced in your screenshot should be available within NinjaTrader. If you open a chart with the symbol ^VIX selected do you see data displayed for the dates displayed in your ^VIX folder.
If you have older data using the symbol $VIX you would need to import the data in the format outlined at the link below and the .txt file would need have a name ^VIX.Last.txt.Last edited by NinjaTrader_ChristopherJ; 12-17-2024, 01:37 PM.Christopher J.NinjaTrader Customer Service

It is not possible to open a chart to ^VIX data. In short - the data _used to be_ collected under ^VIX. Ninjatrader 8.1 is automatically replacing the text ^VIX with $VIX if I try to open a chart or download data. New data is collected under $VIX (on a chart I had open when I upgraded to 8.1 - there too the chart was automatically changed from ^VIX to $VIX). While ^VIX is listed in the Historical Data database, I cannot export it because of the text substitution. I know how to load data. What I need is to be able to export the data stored under ^VIX to a text file so I can import it to $VIX. A tool to do that would also work.

To change the symbol from $VIX to ^VIX please go to the Control Center->Tools->Options->General->Change the "Symbology display style" to Numeric->Click Ok then restart NinjaTrader.Last edited by NinjaTrader_ChristopherJ; 12-18-2024, 03:52 PM.Christopher J.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Thank you. That works! Numeric is much easier to use for futures as well.
OTHER WORK AROUND FOR "Month Abbreviation" FORMAT:
It turns out, contrary to what was stated a few messages above, if you rename your directory from ^VIX to $VIX, that also works in "Month Abbreviation" mode. If you change back to "Numeric" you have to rename your directory back from $VIX to ^VIX. As long as the directory names match the symbol mode, the new data will be stored and old data is readable.
