Charts flicker for no apparent reason

As I have created a thread before - there are still scenarios when applying indicators to a chart that the chart will start randomly flickering when the instrument starts to become volatile.

In a prior issue with my PC it was unable to start the NinjaTrader platform and I saw that the underlying 'code' through an error message was using devexpress charting tools? when I researched it and typed in that the chart was flickering using devexpress charting, the first thing that they stated was that there is an issue if you have a certain parameter turned on in coordination with the 'zooming' functionality.

They also mention flickering during data updating if multiple series are bound to different data sources can cause flickering and even chart updates can cause flickering (albeit if the backend code is not wrapped properly)

my question is - were you aware of this conflict? and if not were there changes to this parameter and or the chart update/rendering code between the versions of NT 8.0.26.1 and 8.0.27.1

NinjaTrader does not maintain a comprehensive record of unwanted behaviors related to third-party add-ons, as anyone can create a NinjaScript Strategy.

We recommend reaching out directly to the developer, individual, or company that provided the code. Since they created the code, they would be the experts on their add-on software and have a record of how it behaved with the different versions of NinjaTrader.

that is a very good generic response. However, your release notes would not detail a XAML change to how charts are rendered internal to NinjaTrader.

The reason I ask is between 8.0.26.1 and 8.0.27.1 the charts suddenly started to flicker on certain indicators that utilize plots or labels. Both of which the 3rd party vendor that you may/may not be using has stated there are potential issues when updating the chart or having data series tied to multiple items.

This would be a question to the developers now.

As well, I can literally show the difference in video if there was the ability to get the old version of NT 8.0.26.1 and then show it flashing on the latest version.

If the NinjaTrader platform undergoes an update and only a few third-party add-ons or indicators stop working, it is typically the responsibility of the developers of those add-ons to update their code to ensure compatibility with the latest NinjaTrader version.

To explain this further, think of it like an independent company making seat covers for a 2023 car model.

• When the car manufacturer (e.g., Ford) updates their seat designs in 2024 to implement new features, the seat cover company must modify their designs to match the new seat shape.
• Similarly, third-party developers must update their add-ons to continue working after platform updates.

as on my other posts it is multiple vendors that have written on the thread that they have seen the charts flicker. not just me. That points to something changed on the NinjaTrader side.

specifically between 8.0.26.1 and 8.0.27.1

since you are utilizing a third party (or it appears you are using devexpress for your chart renderings). On their support forum there are multiple/many threads stating that there is flickering happening when using their XtraChart package.

to clarify further. on 8.0.26.1 with the same code that I have there was no flickering happening on chart update. move to the latest version and flickering happens. No change to my code.

so unless there was a change to the chart renderer or the chart update logic the flicker should not have appeared between versions of NT. And as mentioned if you are using devexpress Xtra package internal to NT, they have noticed this issue with their systems/code where the charts flicker/resize/rescale improperly.

I am saying that your NT platform may use DevExpress as its addon to do the charting. This is not external to NT - the question is --- if ninjatrader is using devexpress xtracharting package INTERNAL to the NT platform - are the devs aware of the flickering issue that is internal to NinjaTrader.

if NT is not using devexpress for charting INTERNAL to ninjatrader. then this thread can be dismissed.

This is not a question of if I am using devexpress, it is a question of if NinjaTrader is using this internally to the NT platform and if so, are the devs aware of the flickering issue that has been reported by them?

NinjaTrader has its own integrated charting system that it uses for the charting.

Unfortunately no, it is not possible to get an unsupported version of NinjaTrader.

If something is flashing and it is a default part of NinjaTrader, then we can give you the steps to do a completely fresh installation and test if the behavior continues.

If the flashing is coming from a 3rd party add-on, then you will have to reach out their team to get further help investigating the flashing.
