How do I trade stocks with a NinjaTrader brokerage account?

My current NT account works with web and mobile, but it doesn't allow me to trade stocks (I've confirmed this by connecting to it in NT8 and trying to trade a stock with the AddOn API).

From my web searches, it seems like NinjaTrader Continuum accounts allow trading equities, but it seems like maybe Continuum accounts are from versions of NT prior to NT8?

How do I get a NinjaTrader Continuum account? Is this still possible or have they been deprecated?

Long story short, how do I get a NinjaTrader brokerage account that allows me to trade stocks in conjunction with my Kinetick data provider subscription?

(I have an Interactive Brokers account and their data subscription is significantly cheaper: $5.50/month vs Kinetick's $93.45/month, so I'm trying to understand the value proposition.)

Currently Stocks are not available for trading with NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts. If you have an account with IB trading Stocks with this account would be supported however would require a Multi Provider Plan to access your live IB account within NinjaTrader. Thanks for the info, I have emailed support for more details. I want to get clarity on what a Continuum account is and how I can use my Kinetic data subscription to trade stocks live.

A NinjaTrader Continuum connection uses CQG as the underlying technology for the data. Kinetick is a data provider only and is not a brokerage account therefore this account would only allow access to data as opposed to executing orders to an actual live account.

So I get that Kinetick is data only and the account that NT8 provides for it is a sim account.

But I am under the impression that I can use the ability to connect to multiple providers to connect to Kinetick for data and then some other service with an active live brokerage account to use the Kinetick data for live trading.

Are you suggesting I get an account with CQG for that? Or are you saying that NinjaTrader partnered with them as the service provider for NinjaTrader's Continuum accounts?

From looking at their pricing:

CQG does not seem suited to individual traders, but maybe I am missing something.

Anyway, can you confirm or not whether it is still possible to create a NinjaTrader Continuum account?

Correct you can use Kinetick as a data source within NinjaTrader while also connected to your brokerage account(s). Unfortunately CQG accounts are not supported and only NinjaTrader Continuum connections can be used with a NinjaTrader Brokerage account which will only allow access to Futures within NinjaTrader Desktop.

The web and mobile applications are only available for NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts that use Tradovate/NinjaTrader based connections which are only permissioned to trade Futures as well.

So to summarize. If I can get market data from the provider that gives me my brokerage account (such as Interactive Brokers), there really is no point to spending money on Kinetick.

If I want to trade stocks, the only thing I can realistically use Kinetick for is testing against live market data in a sim account.

This is b/c there aren't any good brokerage options available that don't also provide their own market data.

Do I have this right?

You can keep Kinetick if IB doesn't provide the historical data you require such as Tick data. Currently IB only provides historical data for Minute and Daily data in NinjaTrader and also can enforce a pacing violation of too much historical data is requested from their servers at a time. Correct you can use Stock data from Kinetick to test using the internal Sim101 simulation account.

Ok thanks so much for all the info. One last question(s), for my edification. Is it even possible to make a Continuum account at this point or were those replaced with the current basic NT account that I log into the client with?

Unfortunately "Continuum" connections are no longer available with new accounts going forward with NinjaTrader and only NinjaTrader Continuum connections are available with NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts.

I ran into the same confusion starting out. NinjaTrader Brokerage doesn't support trading stocks currently, just futures. I ended up keeping my futures account there and used proptraderhub.com for stock trading—they made it easy to get started without needing to fund a separate brokerage account. If you're focused on stocks specifically, it’s worth checking that out.
