How to load a volumetric chart from year ago

Hello

How do I load a volumetric chart from years ago?

Let's say I want to load a volumetric chart of March 2023 contract (date range: 2022/12/11 - 2023/03/10).

I already have these files downloaded from NinjaTrader a while ago (.nrd files) and they are located in ..\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\replay\ES 03-23

I changed the contract name to ES 03-23 on the volumetric chart window, but it shows a blank chart.

Thank you for reaching out.

Are you trying to load a static Chart with this historical data for viewing, or are you trying to actually make the Chart "playback" with Market Replay.

You should be able to open the Chart Data Series and increase the Days to load to 365 (or however many days back) and change the Trading hours template to "Default 24x7" so that any data that is available will show. It also helps to have this template applied if you are running playback over the weekend.

• Set the Date Range:
  • In the Data Series window that opens, set the "Days to Load" to cover the date range you're interested in (e.g., 2022/12/11 - 2023/03/10).
  • Alternatively, you can set a specific date range by selecting Custom Range under Load data based on.
• Ensure Historical Tick Data is Available:
  • Volumetric charts require tick data to be accurate. You need to have tick data for the March 2023 contract during the time period you're interested in. To ensure this:
    • Go to Tools > Options > Market Data.
    • Under Historical, make sure that Get data from server (if available) is checked for Tick data.
    • If you do not have tick data for this period, you can download it manually by going to Control Center > Tools > Historical Data and downloading the required tick data for the relevant dates.

IMPORTANT:

If you had not downloaded the historical tick data previously:

Our servers only allow download of 1 year from the current date of tick data. So you would only be able to download tick data starting from Sep-Oct of 2023

If using the playback connection, you would also need to be using the "Historical" playback.

• Load the Chart:
  • Once all settings are configured, click OK to load the chart.
  • NinjaTrader will pull the historical tick data from your data provider and render the volumetric chart for the specified date range.

Thanks for replying back to me.

I am trying to load a static volumetric chart for viewing.

I followed your instruction, but it still shows a blank chart.

What I did:

- Currently connected to Simulation
- Volumetric chart window set to: ES 03-23 (using 8 range volumetric)

- Data Series --> Trading hours: Default 24 x 7
- Data Series --> Set a custom range: 12/12/2022 to 03/10/2023

- I have all .nrd files for March contracts (..\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db\replay\ES 03-23). These files were downloaded a while ago by using Tools -> Historical Data -> Get Market Replay data.

Thank you for your message and image.

For the Chart to load this data, it would need to be Tick data, and the data would need to be in this location:



Having the data in the Replay folder, would be necessary if you were using the Playback -> Market Replay connection:




Can you please try downloading a years worth of Tick data using the steps below and then try loading your Chart?:

Historical tick data can be downloaded at Control Center-->Tools-->Historical Data-->Load-tab-->Download when connected to a broker/data feed that offers the requested historical tick data.

Once complete, please open your Chart and right click -> reload all historical data to see if the bars populate accordingly.

Just double-checking: Is this the right section to download the historical tick data? (red outlined box on the attached image)

Also should I check all 6 checkboxes (Tick, Minute, Day, Ask, Bid, Last) before clicking the download button?

Yes, that is the correct location to download historical tick data.

You can just check the Tick box, as Tick data is what Volumetric bars would use to plot.
