Symbol mapping error message on execution

    Hi,

I'm receiving stock data through Kinetick, but executing through IBKR using the Gateway.

On one of my strategies, the following error message appears in the Log whenever a trade is executed.

Received execution ID "Uxxxxxx" for uknown instrument, error 'There already exists an instrument 'SMSI' of type 'Stock' but with a different mapping than 'SMSI'.'
The trade went through successfully but any follow-up orders from the strategy were not placed (i.e. exit orders and stop orders that were based on OnExecutionUpdate).

What does the error message mean, and how do I go about fixing it?

For reference, my 'SMSI' instrument settings look like this (the exchanges selected are Default and NYSE):

    Hello nicbizz,

    Thank you for the message.

The SMSI doesn't exist within NinjaTrader by default so we are limited in the support we can provide for the manually added instrument.

It was either manually created in here, or the Instrument could have been typed in and the user pressed Enter on the keyboard to make it from a chart.
    • If you go to the Control Center > Tools > Instruments
    • Search SMSI > Does more than one result appear? If yes, remove the duplicate.

Since the orders are going through Interactive Brokers, you would want to reach out to their API Team and verify that the Symbol Map, Exchange, and other instrument settings are defined as needed for the orders to route to the correct place.
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

Thanks Clayton, I think I have figured out the error - the proper exchange wasn't selected.

Is there a way to use the "Import --> Stock Symbol List" to import symbols into multiple exchanges? Whenever I use the Import function, it overrides the existing exchange on the Instrument, which means at most we can only have 2 exchanges selected: Default, and whatever that was selected during the Import process.

For example, if I first import AAPL, NVDA, MSFT with "Nyse" selected, and then I run the Import function again with "Nasdaq" selected, NYSE will be de-selected in the Instrument panel.

      Thanks.

        Hello nicbizz,

        Thank you for the update.

Unfortunately, no. There is not way to do multiple exchanges at this time.
When using the "Import --> Stock Symbol List" in NinjaTrader, it does not directly support assigning instruments to multiple exchanges simultaneously during the import process.
        • By default, it assigns the imported symbols to a single exchange, and any new import overrides the existing exchange setting for that instrument.

To handle multiple exchanges, you will need to manually edit the instruments after the import by selecting the appropriate exchange(s) in the Instrument Manager.

Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.
