    Massive Data Consumption

I have noticed that both web and desktop version of NT consumes approximately 200MB/hr of data while on Tradovate it's less then 5MB/hr!!!
With both open and closed charts on the same data provider!
Is there any explanation for such discrepancy between this two platforms?

    Hello random-ttcolp,

    Thank you for posting.

So I may look into this further when comparing the two web platforms when loading a test chart are you loading the same instrument, interval, amount of data, indicators, etc.? Are you using the same browser when comparing the two?

Also keep in mind the Web Platform has everything calculated on the server side whereas with the Desktop Platform everything is calculated locally on your PC.

    Thanks in advance.

      Thanks for the response.

So i just cleared the browser cache and turns out both NT web version and Tradovate are at the same data rate.
Since the Web Platform is server side the data rate difference makes since compared to Desktop.

But i still don't understand why on the Desktop side regardless of open or closed charts the moment i connect to a data provider it starts eating up data! as if it's automatically starts calculating the charts and indicators without them even being open.

My current data provider is Ninjatrader's free trial.

        Hello random-ttcolp,

I don't believe there would be any way to accurately determine why NinjaTrader desktop and Tradovate use different amounts of data, that may relate to how they are programmed or what they are doing. The web platforms in general are going to be lighter on data use because its essentially just a small application running in the browser waiting on updates. NinjaTrader desktop when connected to a data provider would be doing more requests to keep the connection alive as one example so it may use more data for various reasons. That could also relate to third party items, if you have any that are running in the background doing anything web related that would also fall under the NinjaTrader process.

Interesting, yes it seems the desktop version is designed to be less conservative on resources and probably most of the data is just real time market info, the first few hours of market open is when it consumes the most data, afterwards it gets pretty low.
