Not getting live data from IB TWS for CME contracts (ES, NQ)

Not getting live data on certain charts anymore using NT 8.0.28.0 (with IB lifetime licence) and IB TWS 10.23.2a ... this started yesterday started on 7/23/2024. Everything was working fine prior to this date.

Forex pairs live data charts still works (EURUSD, USDJPY, etc) but no live data on charts with CME contracts like ES, MES, NQ etc

Historical data seems to still work on CME contracts charts.

I restarted NT and missing historical data loaded back fine on CME charts but still no live data is updating in real time.

Any other users getting the same problem ? Has anything changed on IB TWS server side to affect NT live data on CME charts ?

Can anybody help me solve this problem ?

    Thank you for any help

    Hello qewcool,

    Thank you for the message.

I have not seen any other reports or widespread issues with Interactive Brokers connections yet today or this week so it is most likely something specific to your PC, Platform, or account.

Please use the following steps to Update/Reset the Instruments within your platform and then Restart NinjaTrader:
    1. Disconnect from any data providers by navigating to the Control Center > Connections menu, and left-click on “disconnect” that appears to the right when hovering your mouse over any active connection
    2. Reset your instruments by navigating to the Control Center > Tools > Database Management
    3. In the Database Management window, under the “Update instruments” section, ensure that “General properties”, "Futures expiries" and “Symbol mappings” options are checked and then click Update
    4. Restart NinjaTrader
Reconnect to your data and test if the charts are updating as expected.

If the behavior continues, what happens if you make a New Workspace with only One 1-minute chart and 5 days to load with no Templates or 3rd party indicators?
    • Go to Workspaces menu > new > Call it something like "Test"
    • Add one basic ES 09-24 1-minute chart with 5 days to load and the Template set to <None>
    • save the workspace
    • Restart NinjaTrader and it will open directly to this new basic Workspace
      • Connect to data and test if the chart loads in and updates

If the behavior continues, are there any updates within the Control Center > Log tab that would explain the behavior?

If the behavior continues after the steps above, please use the following steps to send your log and trace files to the support team directly from your NinjaTrader Platform so we may investigate this behavior further:
    • Within NinjaTrader, go to the Control Center > Help > Email Support...
    • To: Set this to "Platform Technical Support"
    • Subject: Copy and paste the Forum URL
    • Attach: Attach a file, picture, or compressed file to share multiple files/pictures
    • Body: Include any other information you would like to share on the situation
    • Make sure 'Log and Trace files' is checked to include the requested files
      • Send the email
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

Hi thank you for the reply

just want to confirm : does the "Update/Reset Instruments" procedure that you described erase any historical data on any instruments ?

Good news. Restarting everything (NT8, IB TWS and machine) a couple of times and the live data for the CME contracts started working again.

It seemed from the live data I was missing that the problem occured because of the daily auto-restart of TWS on 23/07/2024 and how NT8 reacted to that. Usually in those case where NT8 cannot reconnect with IB TWS after the scheduled auto-restart, there would be no live data for every charts, not just for the CME charts, and just restarting NT8 would solve the problem.

But that did not work in this case until I restarted everything a few times. Also in this case only the CME contracts chart were missing the live data feed, everything else was still working.

I will keep looking and see if the problem reoocurs at the next daily auto-restarts until the weekend.

I did not update/reset the instruments yet ... waiting to confirm if that risks deleting any historical data before doing so. Let me know if it is safe, for the next time if this problem reoccurs.
