NT connection issue

    NT connection issue

    Two or 3 questions.
    I've been using NT for 18 months, the last 2 weeks it started disconnecting several times a day and this week it entered orders by itself on 2 seperate days..thats never happened in 18 months. A friend said I should update to 8.1.1.7 but can't find it.

    If you trade with Apex-Rithmic:

    We have been informed of a very extensive problem with Rithmic-Apex evaluation users.

    Please go the Apex site and review their warning about trading during this situation.

    This affected connections and orders.

    We have been advised by the parties involved that the problem has since been resolved and the account connections should be corrected. You would need to restart NT8 and reconnect.

    If you have any questions or concerns about your account following this Rithmic outage, please contact your evaluation service directly.



    If you need to update your NT8 platform:

    To update to the latest version of NinjaTrader Desktop please follow the steps below.
    • Login into the NinjaTrader Account Dashboard
    • If necessary, please create a login ("account") by creating an Username and Password and verifying your email address.
    • Click "Download" in the bottom left-hand corner of the sidebar
    • Next select "Download" in the "Most Recent Release" Window in the main screen
    • Once the installation had downloaded, ensure any previous version of NinjaTrader is closed before running the installation package.
      • Note: You may need to locate this in your "Downloads" folder in a Windows File Explorer
    After the installation package is completed you will be able to log into to the latest version of NinjaTrader Desktop with the connection guide linked below:

      Hmmmm I'm not talking about just today...My disconnecting issues have been happening everyday for 2 weeks now. The orders placeed without me not only happened today but on Monday as well

        Hello kidpoker007 ,

        If you had order issues before, we would need to ask:

        Do you use a Trade Copier or automated strategy?

        Usually "trades opening on its on" is a result of a defective Trade Copier tool.

        If you use any 3rd party software, please make sure you are keeping it as well as NT8 up to date.

        Please let us know if you continue to experience issues.

          Yes been using the same trade copier for over a year, never had a trade open by itself...What do you think my constant disconnect issue might, me using an older version of NT or something else. This disconnect would only happen very rarely until recentlt now it's over times a day.

            Are you using Rithmic account? Yesterday there was a big problem with Rithmic all day

              Yes I use Rithmic but as I stated this disconnect started happening a couple week s..... and I had NT enter trades twice this week by itself... thats never happened in 18 months of trading everyday

                The trades entering by themselves I think was from Apex RIthmic because everyone on the Apex discord was saying the same thing. That's why Apex reversed all the trades and rolled back the accounts.

                For your Rithmic disconnections, personally I used to have disconnects too at home, but that was years ago. I switched to running the Rithmic connection on ninjamobiletrader vps and have never had a disconnection again. Maybe it's something with your home internet that changed in the last 2 weeks. My cable company has terrible internet (fast speeds but random outages) and the vps has saved me so many times now with keeping my strategies running with no disconnects.

                  Thank you for your message.

                  backtester831​ is correct about the Apex issue, if you have any account issues after the outage, I highly recommend you reach out to them to see if they can also rollback your trades/account.

                  backtester831​ is also correct about connection drops being due to local network instability to the Rithmic servers. Even if you have fast internet, if there has been a change or if there is any "blockage" between the path to the Rithmic servers, it can result in connection losses.


                  To troubleshoot disconnection issues:

                  Please first check for software such as (corporate) firewalls, spyware and anti-virus software that could be blocking NinjaTrader.
                  In some cases the modem/router has built-in software that prevents the connection to be established.
                  It is common with a software update, for Windows Defender to block the app again, so please make sure exceptions for NT8 are added to any anti-virus or firewall you may have.

                  To resolve this, I recommend the following steps (test for the issue after each step):
                  • Restart your modem and (if applicable) router
                  • Restart your PC
                  • Also, ensure that your computer is not turning off your Network Adapter to conserve power:
                    • Restart NinjaTrader
                    • Right-click on your Start button
                    • Select 'Device Manager'
                    • Expand 'Network Adapters'
                    • Right-click on your Network Adapter and select Properties > Power Management
                    • Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option
                    • Click 'OK' to save the changes
                    • Do this for all Network Adapters
                  • Clear your DNS
                  • If you are using a VPN, please turn it off and try connecting again.
                  • If you are not already and the option is available to you, connect to the internet using an ethernet cable. Wireless connections are significantly more unreliable.
                  • Ensure exceptions have been added into any firewall/antivirus/backup programs for these folders:
                    • C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8
                    • C:\Program Files \NinjaTrader 8
                  • If the above steps do not help, contact your ISP and let them know you are experiencing a highly unstable connection. An issue of connectivity may exist on their end.


                  Please let me know if you are still experiencing the same after following these steps.​

                      Apex Rithmic having problems again this morning, was in their discord group and it's confirmed by the mods from around session open at 8:30am to about 10am central everyone is having Rithmic connections problems

                          I'm using My NinjaTrader connection too with my Apex Tradovate and my personal self funded NinjaTrader account, but I'm using it on NinjaMobileTrader VPS, and the connections have been flawless, not a single disconnection. I used to have frequent connections drops when running it locally, but haven't had a problem since switching to the ninjamobiletrader VPS, which for my automated strategies is crucial.

                            kidpoker007 - fwiw fyi: I have a similar experience (started dropping out, taking an age to reconnect, failing to connect beginning around 2 or 3 weeks ago and worsening etc). Having checked the service status and followed all APEX’s Help I put in a Support ticket. No useful assistance - roll back Windows Update, but there was no correlation time-wise with the problem and any Win Update.
                            And then the problem went away, back to normal. Meantime had no problem using CQG Connection.
                            No problem or changes made to my internet, pc etc etc etc. Straightforward process of logical deduction. If it’s got feathers, quacks and walks with a waddle it’s probably a duck

                            Hope it resolves itself for you (I.e. APEX/Rithmic get it fixed)

                              Hello. Joining this conversation to add my frustration with the same issues. High latency. For a very long time, I have used the same VPN without any disconnection issues with NT. The VPN says they haven't made any changes that would affect the condition. And apparently NT says the same. For the time being I am using NT without a VPN connection, and I'm not happy about it. Anything you can do or recommend would be helpful.
