    Questions about NT 8.1.3 installation

Since you didn't respond to my post here I'm assuming you didn't see the questions in it:

    1. Do you recommended uninstalling the prior version of NT before installing a newer version?

    2. I installed NT 8.1 a few months ago, but I had to go back to 8.0 because of a compiler bug in 8.1. When I installed 8.1 again yesterday, it seemed to download old versions of some of my scripts and install them, old names I hadn't used in months, because I renamed some. This caused compiler errors, because of duplicates. Does 8.1 backup your platform online? If so, why does it restore without getting permission first?

    Hello gbourque,

    Thank you for reaching out.

    1. Updating is meant to overwrite the existing installation, so uninstalling is not necessary before updating. By Uninstalling, do mean just going to the Control Panel and simply Uninstalling NT8 from there? If so, this should not hurt anything, so feel free to do so. Or by Uninstall, are you implying removing/wiping your NT8 folder before installing the latest version to avoid errors?

    2. The scripting errors you are mentioning are most likey being caused by an active back up software (like OneDrive) duplicating scripts within your Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\custom folder.

No, 8.1 does not currently back up anything online. Backups should still be created from the Tools -> export -> back up option. I would recommend you review what Back up software you are running. And if possible stop it, while you are installing or downloading anything to NT8.

In any case, if you wish to use the latest 8.1.3.0 version, but are being stopped from using it due to compiler errors, here is my solultion:

Please note that unless you delete/rename the NT8 Documents folder before re-installing, the platform will use the same folder, and in turn the same compiler errors will appear.

I recommend this procedure to only isolate this folder:

    1. Close NT8

    2. Go to your PC -> Documents -> NinjaTrader 8 -> bin

    3. Select the "bin" folder and right click and select "Rename. (Rename). You may need to select "show more options" first.

    4. Rename this folder to "OLDbin".

    5. Repair the platform so that it creates a new folder.

    To repair:
    • Go to your computer's Control Panel > Programs and Features (Note: look for 'Control Panel' to find it within the Windows Start Menu. This will be a different window than the Settings page.)
    • Left-click once on NinjaTrader 8 > select 'Repair' above the list of available programs
    • Restart the platform after it finishes repairing, and test this behavior again.

    6. Start NT8 and you should now be able to go to Tools -> Import and import any custom indicators you have available.

Please let us know the results of this test, and if you have any other questions.
