    Multiple stratgeis different directions

    Hello,

Hope you guys are doing well,

If I have 2 stratgies on the same asset activated, and on the same candle close 2 different sgnals occur, 1 long and 1 short, what would be the behaviour reflected on the account ? Buy 1 contract and then sell 1 to go flat ? or just stay flat ? again, signals sent on the same candle assuming on the same exact time.

    Thanks,

    Hello moewqasem,
    Thank you for your post.

It is not possible to hold a long and short position in the same instrument and account. 1 long + 1 short = flat. You would need to trade two separate accounts to truly hold a long and short position simultaneously in the exact same instrument.

With that said, one of the great features of NinjaTrader is its ability to manage multiple virtual positions in the same market. This allows you to manage a virtual long and short position in the same market simultaneously.

Here is how this is accomplished:
    • Open 2 SuperDOMs or 2 Charts (with Chart Trader) and set them both to the same market
    • Right click in on of the order entry windows and select the menu "Properties"
    • Set the 'ATM Strategy selection mode' parameter to "DisplaySelectedAtmStrategyOnly"
    • Repeat the last two instructions on the second order entry window
    • Submit a buy order to open a long position in the first order entry window
    • Submit a sell order to open a short position in the second order entry window
Please note, you would still technically be flat with your broker, even after adjusting the ATM Strategy Selection Mode to show the virtual positions.

In addition to these instructions, we suggest reviewing the content available in our Online Help Guide specific to this topic.

Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

      Hello Adrian,

      Appreciate your response,

i understand that it's not possible, my question is will both signals be sent to the broker and be executed costing me commission and slippage to get to a flat position, or not executed at all to also get me to a flat position ?

      thanks?

        Hello moewqasem,
        Thank you for your post.

This would depend on how you have the strategies set up to place and manage the orders. In order to better assist you, are these strategies from a 3rd party or is this something you created yourself?

We look forward to your reply.

          Hello Adrian,

Not 3rd party, strategies that I created through builder, and assuming the signal is sent exactly at the same time, on the same bar close, what would happen ?

          Thanks,

            Hello moewqasem,

Both orders would be sent to the broker making the account flat and both strategies would be out of sync at that point. It is not suggested to run more than 1 strategy per instrument/account because each strategy does not know what the other strategy is doing to keep in sync.
