    The process cannot access the file 'C:Users/[myname]/Documents/Ninjatrader 8\bin\Cust

    In the middle of my trading my screen freezes and I have to shut down Ninja to unfreeze it. When I shut it down it gives the message below. I trade on a Mac using parallels. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I would really appreciate your help!

    Unable to recover Ninja trarder custom assembly. The process cannot access the file 'C:Users/[myname]/Documents/Ninjatrader 8\bin\Custom NinjaTrader.Vendor.dll' because it is being used by another process.

    Hello Arthur,

    Thank you for the message.

    As a note, we have moved your post to a new thread as it was a new and different error message from the thread you posted in. The goal is to keep each thread pertaining to a single subject.


    This normally means that something within Windows or the PC is holding onto one of the NinjaTrader processes and won't let go.

    1. Please use the following steps to open the Task Manager and use it to Close NinjaTrader:
    • Right-click on the Windows Start Icon > Click "Task Manager"
    • Click on "More details" to expand the window. If it says "Fewer details", ignore this step, it is already showing More
    • Single left-click on anything in the list
    • Now, press the letter "N" on your keyboard and it will jump to anything that starts with the letter N
    • Keep pressing N until it gets to NinjaTrader
    • Once NinjaTrader is highlighted in blue, click on the "End Task" button (Might need to right-click on NinjaTrader and select "End Task")

    2. If you are unable to find the process, please use the following steps to stop the background process and then open NinjaTrader:
    • Click the Windows Start Icon > Search for "Command Prompt" > Right-click on Command Prompt > Click "Run as Administrator > Click Yes
    • Either type or copy and paste the text from below exactly as it appears and then press Enter
      • taskkill /im ninjatrader.exe /f

    3. If the error continues, please try to restart the PC and then try opening NinjaTrader again.


    4. If the same error continues appearing, you will need to reach out to a Windows or PC Technician for further help investigating what in the computer keeps holding onto the Processes and figure out what needs to be done to make it stop and avoid it moving forward.
    • Unfortunately, there are no other settings within NinjaTrader itself to address this error so you would need to reach out to a Windows or PC Support team for further help investigating the cause of this and resolving it

    Once you are no longer getting the error from Windows, the NinjaTrader Support team would be able to provide further help and assistance with NinjaTrader itself.

      Can you explain why in the middle of my trades Ninja freezes and when I X out of Ninja the following error occurs?

      Unhandled exception: Write lock may not be acquired with read lock held. This pattern is prone to deadlocks. Please ensure that read locks are released before taking a write
      lock. If an upgrade is necessary, use an upgrade lock in​.

        Typically this error is generated when there is a conflict between custom add-ons and available PC resources. So I may look into this further please go to Help->Email Support and be sure to include Attn: Chris Jameson in the Subject line, a link to this thread in the body and a check in the box for "Log and trace files".
