Can Vendor send the backup of his computer to update his strategies?

My vendor thinks it is easier to simply back up his NT8 and have us Restore to get his updated strategy version, templates and settings. First will this work? Importantly will it affect my existing setup, like all my strategies, indicators, and workspaces?

    Hello kramnor2001,

    Thanks for your post.

It could be possible for the vendor to create a backup file for their NinjaTrader platform and include NinjaScript files and templates in their backup file.

Then when you import the backup file the NinjaScript files will be imported along with templates and any other items they included in the backup.

That said, we recommend the third-party developer export their NinjaScript Addon by going to Tools > Export > NinjaScript AddOn and include templates or custom resources in the exported assembly along with providing any specific instructions required for importing and using the addon.

See the help guide documentation below for more information.

    Exporting: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...nt8/export.htm
    Distribution Procedure: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help..._procedure.htm

You could then import the exported assembly by going to Tools > Import > NinjaScript AddOn.

Not a good idea because the backup files aren't cumulative. It will overwrite everything you have, so you'll lose all your existing setup, like all my strategies, indicators, and workspaces.

Instead of a backup file, the vendor can zip up all those updates files manually, send you the file, and you place them in the same folders that they came from.

Thanks backtester831. That was the main answer I was looking for. I sent the replies to the vendor.

Actually an NT backup file is just a zip file.

          So, in the meantime ...
just rename the extension to .zip and use
Windows Explorer to self-extract what you
need from any backup files he sends you.
