Alternate Session Specification Impact on Original Cadlestick Timestamp

    Hi,

if I am working with Crypto candlestick data that was stamped at GMT and then change to an alternate session template that is in an alternate time zone (EST for example), does Ninjatrader interpret the candlestick data as if they are stamped at EST?

    Thx in advance

    Hello sumobull,

Thank you very much for your post.

All stored data in the NinjaTrader platform is timezone-agnostic and stored in the UTC timezone.

This means after importing data, the data itself would then be adjusted based on the timezone you selected in your options as it is being printed.

The saved data itself would not be affected.

Please don't hesitate to let me know, should you have any further questions in this regard!

      Hi,

ok, so to confirm, the imported candlestick data is stored internally as UTC, is printed on the screen based on whatever I have set in the platform options, and also adjusted to whatever is specified in a session template?

        Hello sumobull

The Trading Hour Template does not modify the data itself; It would only control which data is displayed.

This means if you e.g. change the timezone of an existing trading hour template, the data itself would be displayed identically. However, it would be cut off either at the beginning or end of the session, as you essentially 'shift' the times during which the platform expects data.

In general, we highly suggest not changing the timezone of a trading hour template, as this is set to the exchange itself and based on the hours instruments are traded there.

The only adjustment would be based on the timezone selected under Tools > Options. This means if you e.g. change the timezone from EST to CST, then reload all charts, all candles would be offset by one hour and would now appear one hour earlier.

Please don't hesitate to let me know, should you have any further questions in this regard!
