Tools > Import does not give me options to search for input file

    I'm on v 8.1.2.1.

I wanted to import a custom indicator. When I clicked on the Tools > Import menu, I did not get a list of options (such as 'search for file').

Instead, I get a small, empty box. (see screenshot).

I tried closing NT and opening back up, but get same result.

I haven't even been able to tell NT the name of the file to import, so I don't think it has anything to do with the code. Click image for larger version

    Hello PLeary,

This likely indicates NinjaTrader Desktop is running in safe mode (you can't import NinjaScript files in safe mode). You can check if NinjaTrader Desktop is in safe mode at Control Center-->Help-->About-->Version.

NinjaTrader Desktop is started in safe mode if you hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then double click the NinjaTrader icon. The Ctrl key needs to be hold until you see the Log In window.

Can you please restart NinjaTrader Desktop and check if the issue persists. If so, could it be the Ctrl key is stuck on your keyboard?

        Hello,
I have the same problem of not being able to import script files and this is actually due to the NT platform being launched in safe mode.
However, when launching NT in "normal" mode, I get the error "Unhandled exception. Access to the path is denied".
This happened after I have installed the latest release 8.1.4.1.
        Thank you for your assistance.

I found the source of the problem: in Windows 10, the controlled folder access in Microsoft Defender Antivirus was enabled.
          Disabling it solved the problem.
Is there any way to enable this Windows feature without blocking access to NT ?
          Best regards,

            Hello bobby34,

The issue was likely caused by a recent Windows update and/or Windows Defender that set the Windows security setting of "Controlled Folder Access" to "On".

If you experience an issue where NinjaTrader Desktop can't access its files and Controlled Folder Access is set to On, you will need to set it to Off to solve the issue.
            • Please search in Windows for "Controlled Folder Access".
            • Click on "Controlled Folder Access".
            • Turn "Controlled Folder Access" to Off
