Running live strategy while Strategy Analyzer is running an optimization

    Hi,
I am wondering, if one should refrain from having a strategy running live while the strategy analyzer is running a backtest or optimization. It utilizes most of the resources it seems, so that the live charts are lagging big time. Is this the correct assumption or are people als letting strategies run live in parallel?

And one more small question: What is the difference of starting a live strategy from the strategies tab in the control panel vs. initiating it on a chart?

    Thanks
    Philipp

    Hello,

Running the strategy analyzer will utilize all of the resources your OS will allow NinjaTrader to access so it can run as quickly as possible. For this reason it may be best to not run intensive backtests when also plotting/trading live charts.
    1. Starting from the Strategies Tab in the Control Center:
      • This method is more abstracted and does not require a chart. It's useful for strategies that do not depend on visual analysis or for traders who prefer to manage their strategies without the need for charting.
      • It allows for a quick overview and management of all strategies running on the account, including enabling, disabling, and adjusting strategy parameters without having to open a chart.
    2. Initiating on a Chart:
      • Starting a strategy from a chart allows you to visualize its operations, such as entry and exit points, directly on the chart. This is particularly useful for strategies where visual confirmation of trades against price action or technical indicators is desired.
      • It provides a more intuitive approach for strategies that are closely tied to specific chart setups or time frames, allowing for direct interaction with the charted instrument.

You need a 2nd instance of NinjaTrader to trade live and run backtest/optimizations at the same time. Can get a 2nd computer, or do what I did and get NinjaMobileTrader VPS. I'm letting the automated strategy run on the VPS while using my computer for optimizations

Thanks, just to check, the different methods don't have an impact on the way the strategies run, right? Starting from the Strategies tab only means that they can't be viewed on the chart right?
"useful for strategies that do not depend on visual analysis" sounds bit like some strategies would require a chart to run.

Thanks, yes, I guess that is the ideal setup. I will look into it, any particular VPS for trading on NT that you have good experience with?

I've tried a bunch of different companies over the years, but the one that has consistently been by far the best is from the company called Ninja Mobile Trader VPS. I'm still with them now, and actually have multiple VPS with them because I have multiple Rithmic funded accounts from Apex, TopStep and Earn2Trade, so I run each one on their own VPS. The VPS company set them up in a local network for me so I use Replikanto local network mode to copy between them all.
