    Platform Update

You know what would be helpful? To be able to Update/Upgrade NT while logged in to the Application.
I hate that I have to go to the NT Site and Download the latest version. Then do the install and then have
to setup my accounts after the install.

I am already logged in to the NT Platform, why do I need to then open a browser and login again?

    Please add this functionality.

    Huh?
    Let's be clear about something.

For the last 10 years ...
When I've done an update (not install) I've never had to
also re-setup my live trading accounts after the update.

[Sim accounts, not sure -- but never my live accounts.]

All existing user data in 'C:\Users\<me>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8',
which includes the file Config.xml, which stores the live account
setup information, is retained across desktop platform updates.

    Are you saying otherwise?

Yes, I am saying that every time I update the software I have to configure my Data Broker as this data is lost.
It is annoying. Now that we have to login to the Platform to use the app, we should be able to update the app
like most any other app where there is a Check for Update.

Going to Help --> Download requires me to login to the platform (that I am already logged in to) just to download the software.

Why do we have these extra steps?

        Hello,

I have noted this feedback to our product team in an ongoing project to improve the update process for the desktop platform.

As mentioned though, you shouldn't have to reconfigure any data connections after updating, does this occur on each update?

It has happened with every update. One of the reasons I do not apply the latest update as soon as they come out.

For clarification, do the connections get removed from your configured list, or do the credentials get removed from each connection setup?

              Credentials are removed.

Perhaps I would rephrase (part of) the initial question as: Why is there no "Check for Updates" menu item in NinjaTrader, which, if there is an update available, allows that update to be downloaded via the already-open platform?

If that is a good rephrasing of that part of the enquiry (if it is not, I hope the original poster (OP) will correct me), that functionality is available in a somewhat "obscure" way with the Help > Download menu item, described as "Download the latest version of NinjaTrader". It's not the most obvious menu item name, but useful for what (I think) the OP was asking (in part).

Having not used this functionality, I do not know if it checks the currently installed version and advises if that is, in fact, the latest version, so preventing an unnecessary download operation. One would hope that this common sense check would happen ... but common sense isn't always common, it seems.

                Thanks.

                  Hello,

Credentials being removed usually means the machine ID has changed for some reason. If this occurs again after updating, please write into our support team so we can verify if this is the cause.

this is a wonderful invention! in order to prevent this **machine ID change** and the hassels of reconfiguring all the important settings, i have AVOIDED to update my BIOS for the last 4 years!!!

Yup, so you can't add Memory or upgrade disk space or update Video Card either. Fun.
