Switching Connections without Restarting NinjaTrader - Apex and Topstep

My NinjaTrader v.8.1.2.1 will not let me switch between Apex and Topstep without restarting NinjaTrader.
- yet I have trading buddies that can switch between Apex and Topstep WITHOUT restarting NinjaTrader.
- none of us, including NT tech support thus far, can figure out why.

Any help how-to greatly appreciated as this is costing me trades having to restart NinjaTrader go back-and-forth Apex/Topstep.

Apex and Topstep require RithmicTrader Pro. The setup instructions for both are here:

I have both setup as instructed, with Rithmic Trader Pro and NinjaTrader.
- but, again, I cannot disconnect to one to connect to the other without restarting NinjaTrader.

When you created your NinjaTrader cloud account, did you
import a license key into your cloud account?

Which license key was it?
1. Apex provided license key?
2. Topstep provided license key?
3. Personal license key that you purchased?

Your answer should be # 3 -- I always thought the free
license keys from Apex/Leeloo/Topstep/etc were tied
specifically to that company but already set to Rithmic.

Is Multi-Provider enabled?

Also, I presume you have two connections created, both
set to 'Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage' -- one setup for
Apex credentials and the other setup as Topstep credentials?

After logging into the NT8 desktop, can you successfully
make a first time connection to either of your Apex or
Topstep connections?

So, your problem is, when you disconnect from this first
connection, trying to connect to the other connection
fails? [I assume this is the issue]

Are your Rithmic connections configured with 'Plug-in
mode' check or unchecked?

Try this.

Exit all Rithmic/Pro instances.

Change all configured Rithmic connections so that
the 'Plug-in mode' is unchecked.

Make sure 'Connect on startup' is unchecked for
all your Configured connections.

Create a new empty workspace (I call mine EMPTY),
close all workspaces with charts, so that when NT8
restarts it only opens one workspace, which should
be the EMPTY workspace, with no charts. This
makes starting up NT8 very fast, and only then do
you manually go to the Workspaces menu in the
Control Center and select your trading workspace.

Ok, after that ... exit NT8.

Start NT8 desktop, login into your cloud account
on the desktop. You should automatically open up
into the EMPTY workspace, since it is empty this
happens very quickly.

Connect to Apex.
(You're in a blank workspace with no charts)

Disconnect from Apex.

Connect to Topstep <-- does this now work?
