Connecting to the fastest data provider in the current moment?

Hi,

I heard a trader on a stream once talk about the way his data connection works on NT8. I remember it was something along the lines of, he's connected to several data providers but his data will connect only to the fastest data in the current moment. Is this something that's built into NT8 already or a third-party thing?

I am not aware of a feature or third-party script that would regularly test the connection and connect to a different one.

By default, NinjaTrader Desktop will test the first established connection to see if it provides data for the instruments you are charting. If this connection provides data, it will become the primary connection until it is disconnected, even if e.g. a different connection would provide 'higher quality' data, such as more historical data or tick-granularity.

This is to ensure that, once a connection has been established and its data charted, the underlying data does not change by suddenly retrieving it from a different provider.

If you would like to pre-set which connection should be used for which instrument type, please click on Tools > Options > Market Data, and select the real-time and historical provider for each instrument type.

As long as this provider is connected, it would then always be preferred.
