The first compillation takes up to 5 minutes (8.1.2.0)

    Hello.
I've installed 8.1.2 0 and found that at least 1st compilation (after the platform start) takes from 2 minutes up to endless time.
Sometimes, a saving script in Visual Studio 2022 causes the same effect.
My normal compilation time in 8.1.1.7 was about 15 seconds.

This is a known problem - especially when saving files from Visual Studio or copying files straight into the folder. There must be a 4-6 threads about this already. It was introduced in 8.1.2.0.

NinjaTrader_Clayton Sorry, I've installed back previous version already. Once I'll install back 8.1.2.0 I'll send the report.
QuantKey_Bruce Thank you, Bruce. I saw your posts and messages about this issue. They are really helpful.

fx.practic I think you might be well served to downgrade to 8.1.1.7 until they get this sorted out. I don't think they're going to be able to reply back with a solution in the forum thread - this is going to require a new build 8.1.2.1 and we don't know how long that might be.

QuantKey_Bruce Agree. Even more: I've downgraded already.
                But:
                1. Someone should help to make NT great again
                2. I have been waiting for new C# language features so long! I am really excited about extending my language tools.

Also, I've tried to run the similar test on VPS - it compiled normally from the very first time after running.
So, I have to run "forever compilation" test on my main PC.
And there is a hope that it can run normally on my PC too.

It's not true that the "first time" takes greatly longer or indefinite per se. It's true that when the files change while it is compiling (for instance, if you are copy-pasting a whole bunch of your old source files into the directory, which it detects after the first one, and starts compiling while the others are still copying) it gets stuck. If you want to see that this is true, copy the files while NT is not running, then start NT up with no workspaces and open a SINGLE script editor and hit compile. It takes longer, but not indefinite.

QuantKey_Bruce Tested, confirmed. Moving back and forth 18 files caused 70 sec. compilation instead of ~22 sec.normally.

Under "the first time" I mean is just one from other scenarios. Just to move step by step.
Another case, the most sensitive for me, is just saving one script in Visual Studio - this may provoke endless compilation.

I hear you. I rolled back to 8.1.1.7 for my normal work (leaving one machine on 8.1.2 for continuing testing) because it's just too frustrating to keep messing with 8.1.2.0 until this gets sorted, and of course, the protected assembly function is still in a weird interim state as that gets sorted out. That might be nearing a solution but this one is still a hot mess. Life is too short to be ending NinjaTrader with task manager 100 times a day because I saved a file somewhere. This has to be fixed or any "real" development can't take place on 8.1.2.

What is happening here, I think, and I hope you are looking into this please NinjaTrader, is that when you save a file with Visual Studio, NinjaTrader's NinjaScript Editor detects this change with a FileSystemWatcher, and reapplies the template code to the bottom of the file (and of course, saves the change). However, new to 8.1.2, it detects its own change, and starts compiling again, as if this change originated from externally. Needless to say, 8.1.1.7 did not do this, nor did 8.0.28.0. NinjaTrader_ChelseaB is development aware that this is happening and compilation gets stuck in a loop?

QuantKey_Bruce good guess! But what is really confusing - the behavior is not consistent. Yesterday was the awful day. Today I am working with 8.1.2.0 the entire day and everything is fine. Now I am afraid of tomorrow )

                            Hello Everyone,

                            Thank you for your patience.

We have already created a case with our Development team to further investigate this behavior to be resolved in a future update.
                            • If you are facing this behavior and would like to share your files and information with the Development team to aid in their investigation, please use the following steps to send your log and trace files to the support team directly from your NinjaTrader Platform so we may investigate this behavior further:
                              • Within NinjaTrader, go to the Control Center > Help > Email Support...
                              • To: Set this to "Platform Technical Support"
                              • Subject: Copy and paste the Forum URL
                              • Attach: Attach a file, picture, or compressed file to share multiple files/pictures
                              • Body: Include any other information you would like to share on the situation

                                • Send the email

Unfortunately, we do not currently have a workaround or expected timeline for this solution.

Anytime there is an update released you may check the Release Notes to see if this behavior has been resolved:
Thank you for pointing this out so we can get it addressed in a future update.

Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.
