Systematic way to backup NT8 desktop ?

    Hi experts,

May I know what's the best way to backup NT8 desktop platform in case of a pc hard-disk crash ?
It could be pretty tedious to re-setup components like workspace, indicators & templates, strategies, replay data files, etc...

    Regards

    Hello elirion

Thank you very much for your post.

The easiest way to resolve this would be to back up your data on the computer, store it on a USB stick or on an online drive (e.g. Dropbox), and then restore it should anything occur.

This would carry over your workspaces and settings without the need to set everything back up a second time.

Please note that the following list is the items you can choose to include or exclude from your backup:
    • Configuration files
    • Database
    • Historical Chart Data
    • Log and Trace files
    • Market Replay Data
    • NinjaScript Files
    • Templates
    • Workspaces
Many users exclude the historical chart data, log and trace files, and Market Replay data to reduce the file size.

To back up your installation, please follow these steps:
    • Open NinjaTrader 8 on the computer you wish to backup from and disconnect from any open connections if applicable
    • Go to Tools > Export > Backup File
    • Select which items you would like to backup and click 'Export'
    • Email or Save the file to an external storage device. The file can be found in the Documents\NinjaTrader 8 Backup folder on your PC
Please let us know if we may provide further assistance!

I recommend using a sync tool like RoboCopy or Syncthing, to an offsite or external disk. Syncthing is easy to setup and works in the background. With Robocopy, you can setup a .bat file job and setup a reoccuring task with task scheduler.
