    Installing NT8 alongside NT7

    Hello,

I'm currently using NT7 for my trading but I'd like to install NT8 on the same computer to test a new indicator that's not available for NT7.
I'll of course exit NT7 before running NT8.
Is this something I can do safely or will there be any issues if I have both versions installed on the same computer?

    Thanks

You can install NT8 and NT7 onto the same computer, there is no
overlap whatsoever (unless maybe if you're using NTDirect.dll, but
most folks don't use the DLL Interface) -- but, seriously, they are
installed into completely separate folders. You'll be fine.

I've installed both to the same machine. I installed my M/B lifetime
license into both, and I've setup the same connections on both.

Using the same license key for NT7 and NT8 is specifically allowed,
this is not a license violation.

And, you can execute both at the same time!
This, too, is not a violation.

The issue is, you cannot connect to the same connection from
both NT7 and NT8 at the exact same time, because for most
folks the second login automatically disconnects the first
login. You can, however, talk to your broker about paying for
a 2nd login, so this auto-disconnect would not happen.

Nothing is stopping you from running NT8, connecting to your
broker, downloading lots of historical data or market replay
data, then disconnect, and checkout the NT8 indicator using
just historical data. While you do this checkout on NT8, you
could start up NT7, connect to your broker, and continue to
trade live on NT7, while you simultaneously play with NT8.

If your NT8 indicator system requirements allow it ...
I would recommend you stay away from the 8.1.x.x releases,
they will be pretty jarring -- download the 8.0.28.0 and use
    that.

The new 8.1.x.x releases no longer use license keys. These
releases come with a new signon dialog, which is mandatory
and cannot be bypassed. The mandatory nature of this signon
has pissed off many users who don't appreciate the repetitiveness
of the signon experience, or get locked out of using NT8 because
they mistyped their password incorrectly one too many times.

Yeah, stick with 8.0.28.0 -- your sanity will thank you.
