NT 8.0.28.0 disconnect when TWS 10.23.2a does its daily auto-reconnect

    NT 8.0.28.0 disconnect when TWS 10.23.2a does its daily auto-reconnect

    Hi NT support,

    Im using NT8.0.28.0 and TWS 10.23.2a


    new abnormal behavior : NT 8.0.28.0 disconnect from TWS when TWS 10.23.2a does its daily auto-reconnect. I have to manually reconnect NT8 to TWS and restart strategies daily now.


    the normal behavior would be for NT8 to keep its connection when TWS does its daily reconnect so that I dont have to manually reconnect NT8 and restart stategies.


    I attached a screenshot of the logs when this happens at the TWS daily auto-reconnect time (which is set at 5PM in this case).



    Anyone else experiencing this same problem or abnormal behavior from NT8 ?

    NT support : Can you reproduce this abnormal behavior on your end and fix so that NT8 returns to its normal behavior ?

    It is known that TWS will auto logout daily, however NinjaTrader should be able to reconnect.

    Please note, any action that would be taken would only be with a release after 8.1.1.7 and we would not be able to report an issue with 8.0.28.0 as this is out-of-date.

    Please update to 8.1.1.7 and confirm you are still able to reproduce and I will be happy to make a report for our development.


    If you are not wanting to update, I would suggest instead to use the IB Gateway instead, which as far as I know does not enforce the daily logout.

      It says specifically to update from 8.0.27.1 to 8.0.28.0
      How can it be out of date ??

      And this is old functionality (NT8 keeping its connection through the TWS daily auto-reconnect) that was already working in 8.0.27.1. It should still be working in 8.0.28.0 if proper testing and update was done

      this is not new functionality that you are adding to NT8.1.1.7 or beyond.

      The least you can do is support the version you officially told users to upgrade to and keep older functionality working.

        8.0.28.0 is not in active development, and remains for users who are unwilling to update to the latest release with the latest bug fixes and features.

        Only critical changes will made to the legacy releases (8.0.28.0 or 7.0.1000.43), such as updates for SSL. (The required update)

        Any changes, bug fixes, or new features will be for the latest release as we are no longer makes changes to NinjaTrader 7 or to 8.0.X.X.

        This only means I will not be able to make a report unless the issue affects the latest release.

        That said, are you finding the IB Gateway does not resolve the behavior?

          Good News.

          The abnormal behavior with NT8 doing a panic disconnect from TWS did not reoccur today on TWS daily scheduled auto-restart. So it went back to normal behavior.

          The only change I made was to change the scheduled auto-restart time to 5:05 pm and uncheck "prompt when exiting" in TWS global config/Lock and Exit

          Also I ran a strategy and it kept running as normal through the TWS daily auto-restart.

          I will let you know if the problem in the original post reoccurs again this week.



          For the suggested use of IB Gateway : I dont mind connecting NT8 to IB Gateway but I need to use TWS itself, outside of NT8, as well.

          Can IB Gateway and IB TWS run at the same time with the same IB account, with NT8 using the API via the IB Gateway ?

            Hello qewcool,

            I am uncertain if TWS and IB Gateway can be connected to the same user at the same time.

            I highly recommend you contact Interactive Brokers to inquire if their software will allow this.
