Simultaneous long and short orders cancel each other out

I am having trouble with maintaining multiple orders open at once, and I am afraid to run an automated strategy until I figure this out. If I have long and short orders open at the same time, they keep canceling each other out or merging into one order. Shouldn't each order have its own ID and keep its own profit target and stop loss? Whatever the resolution to this, can I apply it to an automated strategy or orders generated off of custom alerts?

To have two separate positions open while trading the same instrument this would require the use of separate accounts for each strategy.

Thanks for the info. Aside from market data subscriptions, are there any extra charges associated with opening up secondary accounts after the platform has been purchased?

I suggest contacting your broker directly to verify if there are any additional fees associated with have a second account assigned to your login.
