    Unable to Uninstall or Reinstall Ninja Trader 8

    Hi Support,

    Ninja Trader seems not to be working very well for me at present. As such I decided to uninstall and reinstall a fresh update. However I am running into problems.

    It simply will not uninstall and when I try a fresh install over the current version it fails. For a while I was getting a msvcp.140. dll file error asking if I had access to that location which said it was in use by windows explorer and could not switch it off.

    Now I cannot even get that far as installer says cannot complete due to an error and rolls back the procedure.

    I have tried using uninstall from Apps and Features that fails and from control panel programs and features and it fails to uninstall from there as well.

    Ninja seems to freeze up and some charts will not load hence I was looking for a fresh update and install.

    Please advise on how to fix this issue.

    Update, - Restart of the computer several times I managed to uninstall Ninja Trader 8.

    Now it tries to install latest version but fails on msvcp140.dll when i do to the location is says it is in use by Windows Explorer.

      Thank you for using NinjaTrader.


      First, please ensure that all available updates for your PC are installed from the Windows Settings > Update and Security page. Be sure to close NinjaTrader and restart your computer after any updates are installed.

      After you restart your PC, please try running the installer with all other applications closed to avoid interference. If the installation fails, double-check that your computer meets all of our Minimum & Recommended System Requirements for NinjaTrader.

        Did all of that closed everything and tried to install. Again, it progresses up to a point and stops at the point and asks about access to the dll file. All computer system is up to date and the computer is above the spec required, been running Ninja Trader on this machine for 2 years now. its an i7 7700 with 16GB of ram and GTX 1050. So more than capable of running Ninja up to now. I have no idea on how to get over this dll file. I have given the system all access but no avail.

          Thank you for your response.


          I was able to find a publicly-available support page from Microsoft's website with a possible solution to this installation error message here - Error writing to file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\\msvcp140.dll.

          It seems to confirm that it is an error with the Windows Installer function and is not directly related to NinjaTrader, but these steps should work for the exact error you are experiencing.

            Hi, thanks for that. However it did not solve the problem.

            I did manage to get it working by following this link.



            Now all installed and working as meant to
