    Fixing ninjatrader drawing tools

    Hi,
I want to request a fix for an issue that has been since the very first version of Ninja. When drawing anything that keeps control points beyond the last bar it would not reload properly when reloading ninja, reconnecting, and sometimes even just changing the properties of something draw. So it seems that Ninja doesn't save the control points properly if they are not associated to the bar. This is the most annoying problem in NinjaTrader by far.I am guessing that you guys are fully aware and it is not an easy change in the platform years later but I want to point out how disturbing is this problem and that please it would be awesome if your team finds a work around.
    Thanks

    Hello pacpac,

    Thank you for your post.

This can be expected as when placing drawing object anchors in the future, NinjaTrader must estimate the anchor point.

When the data reaches your drawing object anchor, the angle or placement may have changed depending on how accurate the earlier estimate was.

This difference in the estimate and actual timestamp can be much greater when using a non time based bar type as the printing of the bars is not on a consistent time scale.

      Hi Spencer,
I am aware. I have been using NT for 13 years.
It won't work in all cases depending on what type of bars are used, but it is possible to do a perfect estimation if the pixels per bar are kept as part of the data, and the external anchors are recorded as pixel distance from the last bar, etc. I understand there is some conversion when reloading, reconnecting, etc., but it is possible to do this properly. The issue is keeping the data in relation to bars because it is a trading platform with legacy. With NT8, it is possible to write your own drawing tools, making the platform very powerful but carrying on some legacy regarding the drawing tools data. The workaround for me has been to rewrite your drawing tools to create new anchor points that will always stay inside the bars; that's how annoying this issue is. So if I can do this and I am not in the ninja team, you guys can do this more elegantly where the drawings are saved using anchors inside the bar internally and recalculating to the user anchors when loaded. So either solutions through using pixel data as part of the data set or recalculating anchors like I am doing. So yes, this can be solved after 13 years with the platform, it has been long enough.

        Hi NinjaTrader_Spencer
I cannot change the properties of a drawing chart on a tick chart because as soon as I apply it will move all the anchor points of objects that are beyond the last bar.
I cannot copy a line for example if the anchor point is beyond the last bar.
All of this is just fundamentally broken.
Is the ninjatrader dev team going to try to fix all of this?
        Thanks

          Hello pacpac,

          Thank you for your post.

Our Development Team is aware of this limitation but there is no immediate fix planned at this time.

Currently we advise to not place anchor points in the Future
