    Installation directories

i am NOT desiring to use ONE DRIVE. somehow Ninja Trader has found a way to install itself into the ONE DRIVE folder. When i deleted the Ninja Trader files from ONE DRIVE, Ninja Trader would not launch.

So i restored the files from the recycle bin, restarted the computer and it launched.

could you please provide me instructions to unlink the programs dependency to ONE DRIVE?

could i make a backup. uninstall and reinstall NT? i just do not understand how ONE DRIVE and NT are integrated.

The problem is Windows and OneDrive are very well integrated,
and 3rd party programs which don't know how to operate within
this 'new world' have to learn to adjust.

The root of the problem at NinjaTrader is that they have done very
little to adjust their installation procedures or their human support
    for this matter.

If there was ever a need for a FAQ or a sticky thread -- it is this
topic of how to deal with all the various situations users seem to
    be encountering concerning OneDrive.

Whereas the onus should be on NinjaTrader product mgmt team
to ensure their product works in the ever dominating presence of
OneDrive, NT Support still diverts the user to solve the 'problem'
    themselves.

NT Support, please provide a link to the one definitive location for
your official support position towards all things OneDrive.

This is such a common problem, it deserves a serious effort by
Support to provide a single location that we can all find and
    easily refer to.

Support, can you please do this for the users?

... and to take the excellent post by bltdavid above to its logical conclusion, NinjaTrader needs to update the platform to be fully aware of the state of OneDrive. Where the user chooses to use OneDrive (or is blissfully unaware of it and it is in use), the platform must integrate perfectly with whatever that state is.

        Thanks.

          Yes. See also https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/...etect-onedrive.

The official stance of NinjaTrader appears to be that it isn't NinjaTrader's problem, which is missing the point that if OneDrive is enabled by default, it has become NinjaTrader's problem if NinjaTrader does not work with the Windows default settings. It seems like it should be mandatory that at a bare minimum, NinjaTrader offers a warning when it detects that Windows default settings (to use OneDrive across the documents folder) are in effect, so that users can at least know there is a problem. It is grossly inadequate to simply take the current stance that "various sync and backup software can cause issues" if there is one in particular that is enabled by default on 100% of new Windows PCs and that is known to make NinjaTrader have all sorts of issues.

An example where NinjaTrader staff are walking this line can be found at https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/...98#post1250698 where NinjaTrader_Emily says:

We support the NinjaTrader product and not OneDrive or other backup/sync/cloud programs. These programs have been known to interfere with NinjaTrader having proper access to necessary files, and it has been mentioned in installation guides in the past to ensure that NinjaTrader is added as an exception to these programs. If you are able to set a schedule for when a backup is run, it can be helpful to schedule it outside of hours when NinjaTrader is in use and only run the backup when NinjaTrader is shut down.
This may all seem fine and good and kicks the can down the road, but it is not really a gray area when it comes to support.

If NinjaTrader Desktop runs on Windows and stores its crucial, short-term in-flight app data in the Documents folder, and Windows by default has some setting that makes NinjaTrader not work (such as OneDrive backing up the Documents folder, locking or blocking these files), there is no gray area. NinjaTrader must detect this, and AT LEAST warn about it with suggestions on what to change in the settings if they are not going to actually fix the problem by putting this data where it belongs, in user app data.

There really is no other way forward.

How can NinjaTrader say this is just some external interference and not NinjaTrader Desktop's problem, when NinjaTrader Desktop runs on Windows, and by default Windows is configured in such a way that this is a problem? If you're not going to fix it, you MUST at least warn about it.

Excellent points by long-time forum contributors bltdavid, QuantKey_Bruce and jeronymite ... If one were to take the response from Ninjatrader (as in in NO response) to a logical conclusion, one might think that there are no long-term plans to support a desktop version... Let's realize that without the desktop and that pesky windows installation there would be NONE of these issues...

Maybe we should add this as a future feature request...

brenthilburn If you read through the NT responses to the thread I posted first in the post above you get a real feel for how they are handling this. I was essentially asking them to make a feature request and put my request in the suggestions area and we have a long back and forth in which I am essentially told that what I am asking for is not a thing.

I wish I could ask everyone on this forum to read that thread slowly and carefully (https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/...etect-onedrive) and really let it sink in - what I am asking for - and what the response is.

QuantKey_Bruce as usual, it will be left to the vendors and end-users to come up with a solution that works and HOPE & PRAY there are no issues down the road because we know that Platform Support has taken a hands-off approach to One Drive... Maybe we could get Microsoft to help...

To add more injury to the issue. when i restored the NT files for ONE DRIVE i got a Remote Access Trojan as part of the NT directory.
                  Trojan:Win32/Sabsik.FL.B!ml
                  WTF https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport...32sabsikflaml/

my system never gets Viruses! Please advise. Maybe this is enough to get NT attention. because now i am not certain about the software integrity of NT? Tell me this is a false positive.
