    Setting default account

    Is there a way to set a default account in NT8. So the chart panel and strategies always open with my account? Right now the Sim101 seems to always be the default account but would like to change it if possible. Thanks.

    Thank you for using NinjaTrader.


    Unfortunately, there is no way to set a default account in NinjaTrader. By default, it will select the Sim101 account when a new window or strategy is created to avoid any unexpected live trades from being placed while a window is being created. This is hard-coded and cannot be changed.

    However, if you save your workspace with a live account selected in a window, that account will remain selected after you restart your platform so long as 'Start in global simulation mode' is not enabled from the Tools > Options > Trading window.

      I have 'Start in global simulation mode' OFF and still the workspaces open with Sim101 account. Not sure why.

        Thank you for your response.


        Please make sure Global Simulation Mode is not toggled on as you shut down the platform or save your workspace. Please also ensure that you have your live accounts chosen in the drop-down as you save your workspace or shut down the platform and save so that they are still selected when you restart your platform.

        You will also need to be connected to the broker(s) with the live accounts you are expecting when opening the workspace as well for the account to automatically be chosen. If you are not connected to that account yet as you open the workspace, it will revert to the Sim101 account.

          Thanks to make sure I connect to the broker with my live account I should have checked the "Connect on start up" in Connections Properties?

            Yes, I would highly recommend turning this on so you are connected automatically which should bring your live account back to all windows it was saved on automatically as the platform opens. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

              Thanks Justin, I did that but I get this error when opening NT8. I configured the Connection with Interactive Brokers username and password as well. All the Connection settings work when doing it manual. I have IB TWS Build 10.23.1q, Jun 7, 2023

                  Can I have both versions of TWS installed in my computer? Current and TWS 10.19.1k or only one of the 2?

                    Generally, we suggest removing any other versions of TWS to prevent any unexpected interference between the two versions.
