    Indicator on Indicator issue

    Hi Ninja Team,

I am unsuccessfully trying to place a Donchian Channel onto an oscillator like Money Flow Index or RSI or Stochastic, however, it will not display (load) correctly.
With Autoscale it looks like this (Panel 2) Click image for larger version

and with Autoscale unchecked it simply disappears.
    Any suggestions. Thanks, Ninja Team.

    Hello ScottW,

Can you provide more details on what exact steps you are trying to do? Are you trying to use 1 indicator for another indicators input?

The reason the chart looks the way it does is because you have very different price indicators in the same scale.

      Jesse,

      1) Add Stochastic
      2) Add Donchian Channel
      3) Input Series - change to Indicator>Stochastic
      4) Panel - change to 2 (same as Stochastic)
      5) Hit Apply and - The price scale gets added to Panel 2 and can no longer see Stochastic

So I guess the Donchian Channel is not being nested correctly onto the Stochastic
I wish to use the Donchian Channel because it indicates the moving High and Low - I want to measure that on the Stochastic.

      Thanks, Jesse.

        Hello ScottW,

Yes that would be expected in that use case, those two indicators can't be in the same panel because of the difference in prices. Both will get auto scaled and lead to what you have shown. You would need to use a separate panel or change the price scale being used by 1 of the indicators if they are in the same panel.

          Jesse,

I have included a screenshot from a SharkIndicators. "Bloodhound" tutorial. In this tutorial he nests the Donchian Channel onto an RSI (in the same panel). Click image for larger version

He simply outlined the steps which I described in my initial post.
          Any thoughts on that.
It was using Ninjatrader 7. Maybe some change in Ninjatrader 8 has messed up this option with the Donchian Channel.
I have successfully added Moving Averages to Oscillators , all in the same panel, and this problem does not occur. It works perfectly as expected.
What do you think about this, Jesse?

            Hello ScottW,

I wouldn't be able to comment on something from a third party, the situation that you previously described would be expected and I can see the values of these two indicators are very far apart so they should make the chart squeeze like your image had shown.

You can switch one of the indicators to use a different price scale which would allow them in the same panel because two scales would be used. If you select the same panel and scale then the result you are getting is normal and expected.

A quick way to see why that happens is to add each indicator to its own panel, then look at their prices. If they are not relatively close in price then you are going to get the result you pictured when used in the same panel. In other situations where the indicators values are actually close together you can use those in the same panel without having the scaling you had shown because they are using the same general range of prices.
