    Position Limits confusion?

    Hello there,

I had read before that futures had a limit of 100 contracts pet trade? But I've also read that the limit is 100 positions at a time?

Clarification would be helpful. I've been to the CME group site but the vast spreadsheets there are really confusing.

    I'm specifically interested in MES.

    Thanks, Caesar.

    Hello Caesar,
    Thank you for your post.

The position limit is set by the broker.
To change the limit, you will need to reach out to your broker.

If you have a live account with NinjaTrader Brokerage, Positions limits are listed here: https://ninjatrader.com/pdf/ninjatra...ct_details.pdf

So, if I read the table correctly has a default position limit of 100, am I correct in assuming only a max of 100 positions are allowed (e.g. 1 position is ES 200 contracts, another position is YM 3000 contracts).

The reason I'm asking is my contract number varies. There will be only 1 position at any time, same contract, but different number of contracts as required by the strategy.

There must be an upper limit? I can't say buy 1 million contracts of MES (I wish)?

      Many Thanks, Caesar.

        Hello,
Do you have a live account with NinjaTrader Brokerage?

If yes, please email us your account number at Support[AT]NinjaTrader[DOT]com and specify what position limit and for what instrument you would like to set, so we can forward your request to our Trade Desk team, only they can change those settings.

At this point I just want to know what the default limit and the terminology means. Is it 1 position = 1 contract, or 1 position = many contracts?

          Is this so difficult?

I do have a live account.

I'm just trying to prevent submitting an order for 1000 contracts (I wish) being rejected. Plus I'd like to set tjhe same limits for my SIM accouint.

          Thanks, Caesar.

            Hello,
If within the Quantity tab (within the Order Entry window, such as a SuperDOM or Chart Trader) you set 10 contracts for your entry order and your order fully gets filled you will have an open position with 10 contracts. So it will be 1 position in a specific instrument (like MES 06-23) with the contract quantity of 10.

Ah, that's much better, I was worried I'd be limited to 1 position with a set x number of contracts.

              Many Thanks, Caesar.
