Question about installing 8.1

Hi Trader17, If the ADA chat bot told you to uninstall and delete your NinjaTrader 8 folder in the Documents that is not correct. All of your scripts are located in Documents\NinjaTrader 8, this is not modified when you install a newer version (if something her does change, it will not break code). There are no code breaking changes in the latest release.

Thanks Chris. ADA as in Americans with Disabilities Act? lol. I was talking to I guess a person as had other questions too on funding. So just go to dashboard and download new 8.1 and it will install over my existing 8.0 without me losing any of my saved work, correct? Just making sure as I would hate to lose all my saved work from so many years. And if I want to use 8.1 on a VPS how do I just get my indicators and strategies on there> Is there a faster way than trying to export one at a time?

Hi Trader17, I moved this into a new topic, so please post here for further questions. The ADA chat bot is the automated chat we have on the Ninjatrader website. Installing the latest version will not break any existing code on your PC. To move over your scripts easily to another computer, create a backup file, then import that backup file on the other PC:

Thank you for your note.

As mentioned in the help guide section that Chris shared, you may select the items you wish to backup. The different options are Configuration files, Database, Historical chart data, Log and trace files, Market replay, NinjaScript files, Templates, and Workspaces. If you are looking to only move over indicators and strategies, you could select NinjaScript files. It can be helpful to also select Configuration files because this contains the references needed for third-party indicators and strategies.
