    8.1.1.4 Pulled?

    Hello support...

Is there any reason that all information for 8.1.1.4 has been removed? No file in the portal... No release notes...

How about those of us who downloaded and installed it... WTF Ninjatrader?

    Yeah, strange ...

I just went to download 8.1.1.4, and I can't find it either.

I suspect it was an emergency ... but taking such actions
in a vacuum, without any kind of history update, no hint
of a notice, that doesn't seem like good management.

Let's see if they abandon 8.1.1.4 (since maybe it has some
kind of problem) and release 8.1.1.5.

    Why?
Because release engineering dictates that the 8.1.1.4 is
frozen, it's been used ... to fix anything found to be wrong
with 8.1.1.4 requires a new release 8.1.1.5. Good practice
means even if a minor mistake, release 8.1.1.4 is now used,
and should not be re-issued, it should be abandoned, and
to do that means new release 8.1.1.5 must supersede it.

No matter how small the change, how small the fix, proper
    release management
    says a pulled/failed/defective release
must eventually be fixed/changed/updated and must then be
released using the next release number.

    I'm curious what they'll do.
Because yeah, it obviously effects everyone who has already
    downloaded the 'first' 8.1.1.4.

The "proper" thing to do as well would have been to pull the update but leave the skeleton so people who have in fact downloaded and installed it would know there is an issue... And also give some direction to those of us who already installed it like.. "Please roll back to a previous version..."... This can't continue to be this big of a clown car show when it comes to updating this platform... People are trading live money accounts... Ridiculous...

Yep, this is another case of how NT mgmt is causing anxiety
to some of its user base for no good reason. Indeed, it is quite
the ridiculous clown show sometimes, I agree.

It's almost 11am here California. Markets open later today
at 3pm PST -- so they've got a little over 4 hours to 'correct'
whatever problem they found with 8.1.1.4.

I suggest you rollback to 8.1.1.3, just to be safe.

              Oh, come on.. really ??
This is now the 6th release where NinjaTrader completely ignored their vendors !!
              • 8.1.0.0 no pre-release, complete failure
              • 8.1.1.1 no pre-release
              • 8.1.1.2 no pre-release
              • 8.1.1.3 no pre-release
              • 8,1.1.4 no pre-release, seems pulled so another failure
              • 8.0.2.27 no pre-release
Usually, we vendors get pre-release so we can test our products to make sure they work fine with the new upcoming version
But seems NinjaTrader doesn't care to inform their vendors anymore.

                Hello brenthilburn,

                Thanks for your post.

Yes, Version 8.1.1.4 was pulled at this time due to a possible order error message and our Development team is working on a fix for this. When this is resolved, version 8.1.1.4 will be released.

We recommend that users of NinjaTrader Desktop Version 8.1.1.4 transition to Version 8.1.1.3. This transition will not affect user settings or user files (workspaces, templates, indicators, etc).

Please see the NinjaTrader article for information about transitioning to Version 8.1.1.3.: https://support.ninjatrader.com/s/ar...language=en_US

I hope that this is just a typo: "When this is resolved, version 8.1.1.4 will be released". Good if it is and 8.1.1.5 (or later) is released very soon. If not, then No, No, NOOOOO!!!!! That would be the same utterly aberrant release behaviour (not Release Management) that has been common previously. Any new release must be at least 8.1.1.5. Please prove that NinjaTrader Management is capable of learning from its mistakes.

                  Furthermore, as bltdavid says
taking such actions in a vacuum, without any kind of history update, no hint of a notice, that doesn't seem like good management.
It is most definitely NOT good management! It is, in fact, extremely BAD management! It continues the type of behaviour that fails to respect customers. Good Release Management (as part of a complete, well-defined and responsibly used IT Service Management framework of policies, processes and procedures) always puts customers front-and-centre and ensures their benefit is the intent of any action that affects them and that they are informed of any such actions. See here for a lot more on this matter.

                  Thanks.

What make this message even worse than the actual message is that you say it in such a non-challan matter of fact way, like this is the most normal thing in the world to do. What about the people who already downloaded it? You don't think this is needed to let them know about the issue? Do you even care?

Under no circumstances should the new release re-use the 8.1.1.4 number again as that would mean there would be two different versions of 8.1.1.4 in existence. All professional organisations use proper release control on new releases so that they can clearly distinguish between different software or engineering levels. It becomes extremely difficult analysing problems if you can't clearly distinguish between different levels. All recognised quality systems place great emphasis on accurate level control. Reusing a previous release level for a new "design" would immediately incur a non conformance during an audit.

There is a possible exception which is if they "pulled" it in that no one new could download it in an abundance of caution after some report(s) and then after analysis concluded it was okay after all and put it back up unchanged (resumed downloading of the exact same thing). But, the fact that the situation warranted a whole article about how to downgrade suggests this is not going to be the case and what gets posted next time will differ.

All true Bruce. If it remains unchanged it is not a new release and can of course retain the existing release number. Since I have downloaded and installed 8.1.1.4 I won't be impressed if they modify the software but still call it release 8.1.1.4.

I understand. I had updated here to 8.1.1.4 immediately for testing purposes on one machine but rolled back to 8.1.1.3 when they recommended to do so because there's not much point in spending resources testing if it's not for sure the release and I don't have something specific to look for.

                              Hello all,

The next released version will be 8.1.1.5 which should address the issue in the .4 release as well as a few other fixes regarding trade performance and others. We are currently working to get this release out as soon as possible.

Once the release is available I will update this page. Thank you all for your patience.
