Strategy Analyser Performance - i7-12th Gen :- To Boost or not to boost?

I found these 2 settings in the bios of my laptop.

Intel Turbo Boost Technology (Enabled by default)
    and
Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 (Disabled by default)

Does anyone have any experience with the settings?

I think imagine that enabling both setting would be beneficial for Ninjatrader, especially in the strategy analyser part?

Devise a testcase with Strategy Analyzer,
then perform the test with and without the
BIOS setting(s) enabled ... compare results.

That's the only way to know.

Otherwise, you'd need to provide things like:
    mobo manufacturuer
    mobo model
    mobo s/w version (BIOS/EFI)
    cpu manufactor -- got it
cpu model -- need exact model
    screenshots

So, IMHO, forget all that, just test it and see.

    Good luck!

Turbo Boost Max claims up to 15% greater single-threaded performance. Basically, it increases the clockspeed of some of the cores in the I7 processor as long as it is not overheating (remember, this is a laptop) and as it starts to overheat, it backs them off again. NinjaTrader's Strategy Analyzer is multithreaded and uses all available cores, so the performance benefit will be nowhere near 15%. It will be somewhere between zero and 15%, probably closer to the zero end, and will generate more heat by making only some of the cores run faster.

I done a test case, and i was really hoping for other peoples experience to see if they matched mine.

I found it marginally faster with 3.0 enabled, but im not sure if the application is being more tempermental (ie extra crashes & freezes/more random greyed out boxes)

        My results are as follows:

        Test 1:
Disabled - Intel Turbo Boost Technology
Disabled - Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0

        3m32s

        Test 2:
        Enabled- Intel Turbo Boost Technology
Disabled - Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0

        1m59s

        Test 3:
Enabled - Intel Turbo Boost Technology
Enabled - Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0

        1m53s

        Test 4:
Disabled - Intel Turbo Boost Technology
Enabled - Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0

        3m31s

(Presumably 3.0 does not work without 1.0 being enabled also)

The reason the improvement is not greater is probably that by running one or a few cores faster (which is what that does) it is overheating your CPU causing it to then throttle. NT is multithreaded (especially in Strategy Analyzer), so running a single core faster is not going to improve performance much overall, and it could actually make performance worse if it overheats your laptop causing throttling.

            Yeah for sure.

This is an XPS Laptop so the cpu maxxes out at 100c almost immediately underload.
But the system does it's best.

I'll play around with Turbo Boost 3 for a while.
But first impressions is that the system is a bit unstable.
Might be in my head though, since it's all supported etc and really it's just an ehnacehment over Turbo Boost 1

              Hello gaz0001,

              Thanks for your posts.

QuantKey_Bruce is correct, NinjaTrader is multi-threaded so running a single core faster may not improve overall performance and if your PC is overheating then the performance could become worse.

As bltdavid noted, you should run a few tests on your machine with those settings disabled and enabled to see which combination of settings gives you the overall better performance.

Please let me know if I may assist further.
