    Since update: connections are deleted again and again

    Hello all,

    since the update my connections are always deleted and I have to re-enter them. This is totally annoying. I have two data feeds, one from FXCM and one from "Lenz + Partner". FXCM remained stable the last few times. However, today I had to re-enter the credentials. Lenz + Partner is always completely deleted.

    Please fix the problem.

        Hi Cardn, The connections are stored in the Documents\NinjaTrader 8\Config.xml file. If your connection are being remove it means there is something on your PC that is modifying this file. Make sure there are no backup services running that are effecting this file or any antivirus programs running.

          The most likely thing that is happening is you have OneDrive or Dropbox or Google Drive or Acronis or Carbonite or whatever backing up this Documents folder and it's locking the file to do its backup or worse yet, restoring a different version from the cloud while NinjaTrader is running. NinjaTrader Desktop is basically incompatible with these types of services because it stores instance-specific files in Documents.

            Hi,

            I had already turned off OneDrive for exactly this reason, and it is still turned off. The problem did not occur before the update, but is still there now, although my FXCM connection has not been deleted since I set it up again. Only the Lenz & Partner is deleted every time. In my opinion, this can only be a bug in NT8, since, as I said, there were no problems before.

              Hi Cardn, We are not getting any other users reporting this issue so I do not believe this is a bug but specific to your operating environment. Please first make sure you run a repair/update your installation to the latest version by running the latest installer. This download can be accessed from your client dashboard here:


              And as Bruce said, you may have some kind of software backing up or modifying the file system causing the connections to be removed.

                NinjaTrader_ChrisL Whilst much of your advice is fine, saying "We are not getting any other users reporting this issue so I do not believe this is a bug but specific to your operating environment" is problematic at best. ... Someone always has to be the first to report a bug. Whether in this case it is or is not a bug is yet to be determined, but I would suggest that acknowledging the possibility of a bug at the same time as providing good diagnostic and potential remedial actions is a better approach.

                  jeronymite We are not able to reproduce the reported issue, and if this were reproducible or common, we would be getting more than one forum post about the issue, so currently the issue is locally based on the running environment. Bugs are confirmed when an issue is consistently reproducible on all installations of the latest version of the platform.

                    I am surprised no one has asked OP where their Documents folder is located.

                    Hello OP,
                    could you please provide the full path to the Config.xml mentioned in post 4?

                    I'm expecting something like this,
                    C:\Users\<you>\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\Config.xml

                    On your system, what is the absolute path (aka, full path) of your Config.xml?

                          If it's just this ONE kind of connection that's being deleted this may be a user entitlements issue. You probably want to email NinjaTrader support with your login and reference this thread so they can check if there's something unusual about the particular connection you're trying to add relative to your license and entitlements. Don't post your license information to the public forum so send that in an email to support. We're all thinking of this, seemingly, as an issue in which your files are being changed, but maybe it's more like one of them is not being shown. NinjaTrader Support could address this and rule some things out if they knew in an email your username and could check your entitlements.

                          One way you could check if it's based on this TYPE of connection is just to add another connection of some other type - for instance, Forex.com or whatever - it doesn't have to work or be valid, just add it in there and see if it's deleted too when you restart. If it isn't, and only the Lenz + Partner one is, you have some more information now that it seems to be related to that one connection and not just that any changes are being put back.

                            Hello all,

                            just as an information. I have now received information from Lenz + Partner that it was a bug in NT that has been fixed with the new version...after installing the new version everything is working fine again...however it is a bit confusing that my data provider informs me and not NT...
