    Strategy Analyzer Hangs on Genetic Optimization

    Hello,

    I have this simple strategy (which includes nothing at all but one parameter) and one optimizations xml I was shared with, I don't know why the strategy analyzer hangs and my PC remains in high CPU usage even after I've closed the analyzer.

    I would appreciate your support, as well as advice on what to do under these circumstances, because I've wasted too much time. troubleshooting this issue, one should be able to see some kind of log or notification when the platform freezes this way.

    Thank you for your post.

    So I may assist you more accurately, please answer all of the following questions:
    • What version of NinjaTrader are you using? Please provide the entire version number. This can be found under Help -> About (Example: 8.?.?.?)
    • Do you see results when running the same test on the SampleMaCrossOver strategy in NinjaTrader with the same settings as your strategy?
    • Who are you connected to? This is displayed in green on the lower left corner of the Control Center window.
    • Are you connected to your data feed provider when running this test?
    • What instrument(s) (and expiry if applicable) have you selected?
    • What Data Series Type have you selected? Example: Tick, Minute, Day
    • What From and To date is selected?
    I believe I was able to reproduce the same behavior while testing ES 06-23 with the strategy and template you provided. What I found interesting is the template has Generation Size set to 2 in the GO Properties. If I change this to any other number (such as 1 or 3) I am able to get the optimization to complete. It only hangs when set to 2. What results do you see on your end if you change the generation size to a different value?

      • Do you see results when running the same test on the SampleMaCrossOver strategy in NinjaTrader with the same settings as your strategy?
        • Actually it also hangs when using SampleMaCrossOver
      • Who are you connected to? This is displayed in green on the lower left corner of the Control Center window.
        • FXCM but I think a friend is using Rithmic and it also happens to him
      • Are you connected to your data feed provider when running this test?
        • Yes
      • What instrument(s) (and expiry if applicable) have you selected?
        • Forex EURUSD
      • What Data Series Type have you selected? Example: Tick, Minute, Day
        • 30 Minutes
      • What From and To date is selected?
        • Jan 1 2023 to Jan 31 2023

      I believe I was able to reproduce the same behavior while testing ES 06-23 with the strategy and template you provided. What I found interesting is the template has Generation Size set to 2 in the GO Properties. If I change this to any other number (such as 1 or 3) I am able to get the optimization to complete. It only hangs when set to 2. What results do you see on your end if you change the generation size to a different value?​
      I also see that it hangs on these specific settings, and my PC keeps hitting the fan until I shut down the platform completely.

        Just to clarify - is it only hanging when the Generation Size is 2, or are you able to get it to hang with any other settings?
