Social sign-in after creating an account with username and password
If I created my account in account.ninjatrader.com by selecting a username and password (which seems to be the advisable way since so many reported problems with social sign-in) and I use my regular email address, after the account is confirmed and up and running, why can't I sign in with Google which also has my same email address? Trying to do so just leads to it asking me to sign up for a different account, as if it does not recognize that the email is the same and match the accounts.Tags: None

Hello QuantKey_Bruce,
Thank you for the inquiry.
The Account Dashboard Register Form does not allow for "Whitespace characters" like @, !, & etc. to be used for the username, so it is not possible to use an email. You would need to create a custom username of characters and numbers.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

NinjaTrader_Sev, thank you for this clarification, but that wasn't really what I was asking. To be clear, if I register with a username and password and email e.g. "John" and "Smith" and "[email protected]", then if I later sign on with Google, which with OAuth2 identifies me as "[email protected]", why does it then create a new account rather than logging me into the existing one? Are you allowing there to be two accounts created manually with the same email?

Hello QuantKey_Bruce,
Thank you for the clarification.
Signing in through Google creates a unique username. It will not pull an existing username, even if a trader had already created a username with a Gmail account. If the trader has already created a username, then they would need to sign in with that username.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Yes, I realize this, and stated this in my original post to start this thread. What I'm saying is that does not really make the most sense. Why should it not match on the existing email address if signing in through Google provides you with the email address (which it does, via OAuth2)? Do you require the email addresses to be unique or do you not?Originally posted by NinjaTrader_Sev View PostHello QuantKey_Bruce,

Hello QuantKey_Bruce,
Thank you for the inquiry.
I have verified with my manager that you will need to log in with your original username in order to access your account. You would not be able to use the "Login with Google" option because that is not what you originally used to set up the account.
As a security measure, signing in with Google will create a new unique username, rather than just pulling your existing username that was used to set up the account (without the email being initially associated). This is intended by design to ensure that all of your accounts and funds are as secure as possible.
Thank you for your understanding.
Please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.
