New Subscriber, Old Desktop Platform
If a person becomes a new subscriber today, how can they use NT 8.0.27.1 for live trading? Where does the licence come from?

License keys are no longer being sold, as this has converted to an account plan within their NinjaTrader User Account. Below is a link on how to add/upgrade an account plan within your NinjaTrader Account Dashboard for reference:

NinjaTrader_RyanS What you are saying is that the 8.0.27.x platform, that will be supported for years (see commitment by NinjaTrader_Ray), is not available to new subscribers to trade live on because of a structural change in the way you issue "user entitlements".
Yet NinjaTrader supported NinjaTrader 7 for years after NinjaTrader 8 was introduced. Even now, although not "fully supported", users can use NinjaTrader 7, even when a new subscriber, albeit, by extension of your comments, not for live trading.
Until a few weeks ago, NinjaTrader 8 was the flagship product for live trading. NinjaTrader 7, although deprecated, was also available for live trading. Both products continue to be available for live trading to anyone who purchased access to the products prior to the arbitrary date of introduction of NT 8.1.x.x.
To essentially embargo live trading in a currently fully supported and long-term product is appalling. It is an untenable approach to customer satisfaction.
There is no technology impediment to making live trading continue to be available to new subscribers for NT 8.0.27.x, even though that would entail some technology reversions in some manner. If policy stands in the way, the policy is not in the interests of growing the customer base and customer satisfaction.
This is truly a roadblock of significant proportions for Vendors growing their customer base (with consequential flow-through of revenue to NinjaTrader), where use of NT 8.1.x.x is not possible or not acceptable for some reason (of which there are a great many, as witnessed in the Forum).
Please review this situation so that live trading continues to be possible for new subscribers on NT 8.0.27.x, a fully supported product.

Hello,
The change from a license key to an account plan is in hopes to make everything a bit clearer for customers, as well as making any changes to this plan easier on the customer as well.
While the license key system is being sunset, this functionality is essentially transferred over to an account plan tied to your user. So instead of having a 36 character key that links to your enablements, this will now be linked to your username you login with. All of the historic functionality a License Key used to provide is now being provided by the same username connection you use to login with.
We understand this is an adjustment for current users but we hope this change is a minor speedbump in making this process easier for all users.Ryan S.NinjaTrader Customer ServiceComment

NinjaTrader_RyanS That's lovely ... but how are users who want to start their journey with NinjaTrader and not use 8.1.x.x enabled to use 8.0.x.x? That is the question that NinjaTrader seems to be studiously avoiding addressing! A question that many want answered. Vendors in particular want certainty that they can offer their products to new customers without forcing them down the 8.1.x.x route, especially when the Vendors themselves may not (yet) offer such support. Please answer the question directly.

Our goal is to have all new users setup so that they are compatible with the newest version and features of NinjaTrader. At some point these older versions of NinjaTrader and License Key system will not be supported (even if this is years away), so we are trying to prevent the need to have any new users have to go through any sort of migration.Ryan S.NinjaTrader Customer ServiceComment

To clarify for all, all new NinjaTrader users will be using 8.1 as they will receive NinjaTrader credentials that have their account plan information associated with their login. New users will not be able to use 8.0 or NinjaTrader 7 as they will be unable to obtain a license key that these platforms require to work, nor will any new NinjaTrader credentials be compatible to connect to these versions.Ryan S.NinjaTrader Customer ServiceComment

NinjaTrader_RyanS Such a lamentable policy that treats the user community very poorly. At the press of a key on 2023-03-05, without prior warning, NT 8.0.x.x and NT 7 are embargoed for new users. It might be argued that it could be considered reasonable for NT 7. But to deny access to new users to the then current NT 8.0.27.1 in an instant, and furthermore, to deny your vendors the opportunity to sell to traders who, for whatever reason want to continue with the 8.0.x.x stream, is both irrational from a business perspective, and utterly disrespectful of those who have committed to the company, and those who want to commit to the company with a grace period of usage of a known product. It is common practice in the IT industry to allow a transition period for major changes. This flies in the face of good business practice and respect for customers, current and possibly soon-to-be.
It will probably not be appreciated by many who do not understand British humour, but I am reminded of the episode of "Yes, Minister" (S02E01 "The Compassionate Society") concerning the state of St Edward's Hospital that has been open for 15 months but has zero patients.
