"Pending order" referenced when closing out NT8

I'm consistently getting a message telling me that I have a pending order when I begin closing NT8, whereas I really don't.
After this warning pop-up, just to make sure that I didn't, I hit ALT-C and ALT-F, to cancel and flatten any pending orders or close any positions.
It referenced an order at a certain price level, which did not really exist.

    This has happened twice now.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Tripp

Is it in a SIM account? If so and you don't need the history, try resetting it (right click on it on the accounts tab, edit account, reset).

This is probably what has been discussed in the Forum before. See:It really is more bug than inconvenience.

      Thanks.

        Hello Tripp,

        Thank you for your post.

If these are simulation orders, the simulation account will need to be reset in order to get rid of the orders that are stuck in the pending state. Resetting a simulation account will clear all historical trade data from this account. Please follow the instructions below to reset a simulation account.
        • From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the Accounts tab
        • Right click on your simulation account and select Edit Account
        • Press the "Reset" button
If these are not simulation orders, I would suggest first shutting down and restarting the platform or disconnecting/reconnecting from your provider. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact us via email or by going to Help > Email Support for additional assistance.

NinjaTrader_Zachary Please read the two links posted above. This really is aberrant behaviour in Simulation Accounts that should be addressed as a bug.

          Thanks.

I agree - I find myself resetting sim accounts all the time - for myself or other users. I'm not sure how they get broken exactly, but it happens, and it happens with some regularity so it's not a "one-off" situation but a recurring issue.

              Hello everyone,

              Thank you for your replies.

Generally, we see this issue occur with the Sim101 (and other locally-created Simulation accounts) in Desktop when there are unexpected connection interruptions while the order is switching from one state to another. It happens as a consequence of storing trades in the local database file. With the new NinjaTrader Desktop, we do now offer server-side demo accounts that can be used for simulation in lieu of the Sim101 account. We would not expect these new server-based demo accounts to experience this issue, as the trades for these accounts are not stored in the local database.

NinjaTrader_Zachary Whilst a useful addition to the possible ways of trading in simulation, this new server-side approach is just an addition.

The existing Sim accounts still have this bug that causes Orders to become "stuck" in CancelPending from time-to-time. This is entirely within the ability of the Destop platform to fix without the need to force traders to destroy their trade history! It's a bug. It can be fixed. It just needs someone to decide to do it and for Development to fix the code. Simple. Please, fix this bug.

                Thanks.

                  Hello Jeronymite,

I looked up an ongoing feature request to look into this behavior (as this has been a long noted item with customers) and it looks like the development team was unable to find a work around for preventing this type of behavior. As NinjaTrader_Zachary mentioned it's an unfortunate symptom of simulating fills locally and logging them to a local database rather than running and storing these trades through an external server.

A typical life of an order is from Submitted>Accepted>Working>Filled, and when this occurs on the sim101 account it's executing this all through a simulation engine in the platform and logging them to the database. Other than connection disruptions, orders that are changed and then run into an error submitting may get stuck as well, such as the following.

-Bracket order placed with OCO functionality, logged to db
-A change to the stop is submitted
-the target order fills while the change to the stop is submitted
-The stop is unable to complete its submission to 'accepted' since its OCO id is no longer active
-The db has the order as submitted still since it never received its order update back from the sim engine, making it stuck.

As mentioned, this is an unfortunate symptom of locally run simulation accounts which we hope will be part of some attractive benefits of running server side simulation accounts. That said, I will bring this up with our product team again to see if this functionality would be possible to revisit/improve as well as ensure similar situations do not occur on the server side iteration of simulation trading going forward.

As always we appreciate the feedback!

Thanks, NinjaTrader_RyanS I appreciate the attention you are giving this. I would not normally say things like this, but it is perhaps warranted here. Having been in Software Engineering for more than four decades, I can say that it is "extremely rare" to find a situation where once the issue is understood, nothing can be done to fix it. The most insidious issues almost always have a resolution. I hope that Development's deep dive on this will fix the bug for Sim accounts once and for all.

                    Thanks.

                      Thanks for the input everyone!
Yes, I had done some SIM trading to test some strategies... this has just never happened before, and I'd done plenty of testing like this in the past.

                      My very best to y'all.
