    Constrain Trendlines Key

    Hello

I can't find the Constrain Trendline to X or Y axis key?

Usually Drawing Software if you hold down Ctrl or Shift or Alt and drag a line the key will constrain or snap a drawing in progress line to the dominant movement axis.
For drawing straight lines without having to be precise and then having to waste time trying to be precise and then giving up and having to open up the properties inspector and copy the start anchor value to the end anchor value. Its a lot of inconvenience and time that could be eliminated by hitting just one key.

Has Ninjatrader 8 not got an implimentation of this?

    Thanks

    Hello SmartArtsStudio,

You can configure 'Snap mode' to Price and anchor points of drawing tools will snap to price (rounded to the nearest tick).

Please right click in the chart and select Drawing Tools-->Snap Mode-->Price. If you now draw a Line drawing object horizontally, the 2nd anchor point will snap to the same value of the first anchor point.

      Hello

Thankyou. Snap is good for the origin, but no good for the destination anchor, lines into the future where there is nothing to snap to (and you want it time limited not to infinity)... or to the past where it wants to snap to a candles when you what you want is a straight line.

I can modify the drawing tool myself to
      1) Check for a control key press
      2) Calculate rise over run to determine dominante axis movement.
      3) Enter Origin coordinate for the other axis coordinate.

It'll probably only take an hour for me to figure out the source code.
Which is why I was checking first. Such a simple feature to impliment... I was sure I must have been missing something.

Can you add it as a feature request. I am sure others will love it too.

      Thanks

I am not finding that it does. For me the second anchor stays where I second click.

This works for me when I test it. When I draw a Line, the first and second anchor point snap to price.

You will have to draw the Line horizontally - the second anchor point does not automatically get placed at the same value of the first anchor point.

If I do this without Snap mode set to Price, it is much harder to draw a Line horizontally. It might look horizontal, but then when I check the values under Data, it is usually slightly different.
