What are position limits on contracts like YM or ES?

My understanding is that contracts like YM have position limits set for an account, but they can be increased up to a point by contacting the broker (ie you folks). What is the difference between the "default position limit" and a maximum position limit allowed by (say) CBOT or CBOE?
In particular, I would like to find out how I can find out the current position limit on my account for say YM or ES and how I can find out the maximum value these limits can be increased to.

The default position limits will entirely depend on your broker - should you have a question on increasing this amount it is recommended that you reach out to your broker for assistance.
