    Upgrade from 7 to 8, advice and help needed.

    Hello. I need some help/advice.

    Friend bought Ninjatrader 7, and has been running it on Windows 10 for a few years now. Also has Sharkindicators installed as well. All A-OK.

    We are going to buy a new laptop, which will have Windows 11 on it, we want to install NinjaTrader 8, along with the Sharkindicators on it - and then test the system to make sure we are getting the same results as the NT7/Win10 system.

    How does the licensing work?
    Can we run the two systems concurrently? 1 live, 1 paper?
    What is the best way in doing this?

    Thank you for the inquiry.

    First, I have provided our Migration Guide for moving from NinjaTrader 7 to NinjaTrader 8 below:



    For 3rd party strategies, indicators, or add-on scripts, please consult with the individual vendors for NinjaTrader 8 compatible versions of their products. Due to significant changes in NinjaScript released with Version 8, Version 7 strategies, indicators, and add-ons will no longer work in the new version.

    NinjaTrader has provided the vendors with information on necessary steps to convert their code, and they should be able to provide you with new NinjaTrader 8 compatible versions. You will need to reimport the Sharkindicators on the new computer, but the updated versions should work with NinjaTrader 8 unless specified otherwise. You will also need to ask the developer about the third party licensing for their products to determine if you need a new one.

    If you have a live NinjaTrader license key, you will be able to use this key on both NinjaTrader 7 and NinjaTrader 8 if you need to open both platforms simultaneously. However, please be advised that it is likely that your login credentials will only work on one or the other unless you have a multiple login enablement through your data provider.

    NinjaTrader 8 will allow you to access the SIM101 paper account and your live account simultaneously in the same platform; you will just need to select which account you would like to trade on in the order entry windows. It is not possible to have two installations of NinjaTrader 8 running on the same device.

      came to this discussion when searching for migration support, click on the link above, but there is no migration guide. it redirects to the help page in general.
      Dont you have anymore a migration guide?

          You can run both versions on the same computer, But your data feed can only connect to one at a time. Nt8 offers a migration from NT7 to NT8 during the NT8 install.

          If you accept this option, be sure to delete all your NT7 market data prior to install of NT8 or the migration portion could take hours.
