    OCO Order Using Chart Trader

I would like to place two orders using chart trader - one buy above price and one sell below price. Please advise how I can do this. Thanks.

    Hello Fran888,

    Thank you for posting.

One of the great features of NinjaTrader is its ability to submit two entry orders, one which will cancel if the other is filled.

You can accomplish a breakout/breakdown approach by:
    • Right click in the Chart Trader panel and select the menu "OCO Order" to enable this function
    • For your first order, select the desired option from the "ATM Strategy" drop down list
    • Submit your stop order to buy above the market
    • For your second order, select the desired option from the "ATM Strategy" drop down list
    • Submit your stop order to sell below the market
    • CRITICAL Right click in the Chart Trader panel and select the menu "OCO Order" to disable this function

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

Not sure what you mean "
      • For your first order, select the desired option from the "ATM Strategy" drop down list" Do you mean select my ATM strategy? That's all I see in the list. When I selected one of my ATM strategies, I got an error message when trying to place both orders.
Also, I would like to do the reverse: Sell above price/buy below price using an OCO order. Thank you.

        Hello Fran888,

Do you want to attach an ATM Strategy to each entry order? If so then correct you would select your ATM Strategy template->Submit your first order->Then prior to submitting your second order select the template again from the ATM Strategy drop down then submit your second order. If you do not select the ATM Strategy template prior to submitting your second order this will generate an error message.

The same steps can be used when submitting a Sell order above price and Buy order below price.

Thank you for the reply. Please see attached. I have OCO selected and an ATM strategy. I place the sell order but when I try to place the buy order, I receive the error message - says I can't place another order until the first one is filled.

Prior to submitting your second order select the template again from the ATM Strategy drop down then submit your second order. If this step is skipped prior to submitting your second order this error message will be generated.

Also when selecting the template be sure you are not selecting the template with the lightning bolt next to the name as that one is already attached to the first order/

I did as you instructed and now it seems to work. However, I want to use the same template for both buy/sell. So I presume I have to create another template with the same instructions but a different name. Also, after the trade is executed and exited, looks like I have to click OCO off then on again for each trade? Thank you.

You can use the same template, simply select the same template from the drop down menu list again and you are not required to create a second template. Correct after both your entry orders have been submitted be sure to disable OCO.

But the template now has a lightening bolt icon - so I can't use it.

So do I have to make a new template for the opposite side because the first one has the lightening bolt - so I presume I cannot use that one again. This is a somewhat confusing. Please clarify. Thank you.

Well I'm not getting a lot of answers here. Guess I'll have to start a new thread.

Within your ATM Strategy you will see your original template available with no ligtning bolt as referenced in the attached screenshot using a template called "Test" as an example.

This is what you told me last week:
"Also when selecting the template be sure you are not selecting the template with the lightning bolt next to the name as that one is already attached to the first order/"

If I select the original template, it has a lightening bolt. That means I have to create another template. What you posted just now doesn't work.

I have included a video at the link below that goes over this procedure step by step.
